As we wind down another fun-filled and successful camp season, it is

also a time to reflect on how camping continues to change and yet remain the

same.

We continue to try and keep up with the future; however it is people and

places that create memories and importance in our lives. When a camper says

on Camper Counselor Day, “This was the best day of my life” or “Aunt Ellen

how come camp is only in the summer?” it reaffirms just how important camp is

in the lives of our children.

Camp continues to give kids a world of good- it encourages wonder,

promotes activity, invites questions and repeats traditions.

We have come a long way since 1956 and throughout the decades our

focus has remained constant: the smiles, the laughter, the friendships and

safety of our campers.

Our staff is priceless,

Our parents are valuable,

Our campers are treasures.

ARROWHEAD is ageless!

To everyone involved in our 2011 camp season- we thank you for

continuing to make the traditions of ARROWHEAD DAY CAMP a success!

ARROWHEAD – the place for fun……..2012 for Everyone!!!!!!!

Yours for better camping-

JUNIOR CAMP

WOW, the summer of 2011 has been a hot one! The sun continues to shine on

ARROWHEAD DAY CAMP and the junior campers continue to grow. Wherever you look on the

ARROWHEAD grounds, you see junior campers excelling. They are excellent swimmers,

equestrians, zip-liners, artists, boaters, fishermen, and all around athletes. They loved the

computer room, music and dance, and the playground! We can also add scientists into the

equation, because Nature Study was an excellent outdoor classroom where they learned many

new experiments as well as learning about our nature pets! They have packed in so many

activities into our summer months that they will have wonderful memories to share until we are

all back here together for the summer of 2012! I look forward to seeing everyone back next

year!

INTERMEDIATE CAMP

The Intermediate campers have had a FABULOUS summer at ARROWHEAD! There were

many changes to the way we run our intermediate campers’ days, and the campers took it all in

stride with smiles on their faces. We reformatted our league schedules so that campers

competed in not only soccer, but kickball, gaga, and softball as well. The friendly rivalry

continued week after week and the campers looked forward to each new week’s league game.

Club day was also different in that campers signed up electronically from home. Some campers

picked extra periods of their regular day favorites like GaGa, Horseback Riding, and Swim while

others jumped at the chance to try Zumba, Jewelry Making, Pottery, Karate, Frisbee Golf,

Cartooning, and many more. When you add in the Roadrunner Race, the Scavenger Hunt, the

Land Carnival, and the Water Carnival…. days at ARROWHEAD are the best! You just can’t

beat ARROWHEAD! I look forward to seeing everyone back for another exciting summer in

2012!

Aunt Kristen Cheney – Junior & Intermediate Camp Director

SENIOR CAMP

The Senior Camp has experience one of its finest summers this year. Despite the hot

weather, our campers remained enthusiastic thanks to our fantastic staff. I have seen

many of our campers improve their skills with our expert instructors. This summer our

senior campers were able to sign up online from home for 2 club day periods a day.

Along with our usual great activities special club day activities included scuba diving,

cheerleading, cartooning, building model airplanes, face painting, learning how to do

magic, yoga, karate, ceramics, jewelry, cricket, rugby, ultimate Frisbee and zumba.

These activities were all camper favorites and the instructors did an excellent job. The

new newcomb and softball league format allowed our campers to have a regular season

and a playoff schedule which the campers really enjoyed. The camp season was a huge

success and I cannot wait to see you all again next year.

Uncle Brian Witt- Senior Camp Director

SPORTS LOGO DAY

ARROWHEAD celebrated Sports Logo Day by showing off our favorite team jerseys.

Campers wore shirts of college teams, professional teams, and even their local teams. There

were many Phillies and Eagles fans, and lots of little league and t-ball

teams were represented as well. We know that we have athletes at ARROWHEAD, but on

Sports Logo Day we really showed how much we love our sports by wearing our favorites!

Maybe one of the current ARROWHEAD Campers will be a future professional athlete? We

can say it all started here on the fields of ARROWHEAD!

BACKWARDS DAY

ARROWHEAD campers showed their creativity on Backwards Day. Kids were wearing clothes

inside out and upside down. Some wore underwear on their heads, some had mismatched and

backwards shoes, and some even WALKED backwards! Winter wear was seen at camp, as some

campers wore gloves or mittens and ski hats! Counselors of intermediate and senior bunks

switched for the morning, adding more to the backwards theme. It was a super day at

ARROWHEAD!

ARROWHEAD 2011 Bunk Picture Update

It was a terrific day back on Wednesday 6/29 when all Arrowheaders received their new

ARROWHEAD t-shirts and brought their brightest smiles with them. We are currently

developing all photographs. Watch your mail in mid-September, as all Arrowheaders will be

receiving their 2011 8X10 glossy bunk picture. Here’s to memories in the making!

PROPER FOOTWEAR AT CAMP

We are informing all of our parents that sneakers and sneakers only are the appropriate

footwear for your children to wear during our camp day. Any types of sandals, flip-flops, pool

shoes etc. are not only inappropriate, but also dangerous. Our campers are engaged in various

activities including running, jumping, climbing, etc. and sneakers are for these endeavors.

Parents, we ask you to please follow our advice for the safety of your children. Thank you.

SOMETHING SERIOUS- SOMETHING SWEET!

Many campers at ARROWHEAD have severe food and bee sting allergies. Due to the

increasing amount of campers who enjoy celebrating their birthdays at camp we have to be extra

cautious. We are asking that treats be sent in for special occasions only. We are also insisting

that all food of any kind be eaten inside the air-conditioned Mess Hall. This will enable us to

monitor the bees, allergies and clean-up more safely. Thank you.

4

ARCHERY

Archery has been amazing at ARROWHEAD this year! The Intermediate and Senior boys and

girls have already shown a knack for excellent shooting by incorporating the proper firing

techniques that they have learned during their weekly visit to the Archery Range. In addition to

their willingness and focus to want to be the best archers at ARROWHEAD, each has shown the

respect necessary for using the equipment by following the safety procedures while on the range.

Through four weeks of camp, the ARROWHEAD archers have learned not only to fire their

arrows with great speed and accuracy but also to use patience and resolve while aiming their

arrows at different places on the target. Each camper is familiar with the three bows that we use

including the Recurve, Longbow and Compound Bows. While shooting either from the archery

stall or five feet in front of it (depending on the age and strength of the campers),

ARROWHEAD archers are firing their arrows and earning Blow Pops and Lollipops while

aiming for the target Bulls Eyes and/or balloons that are placed on various places on the target.

Later this summer, campers will be aiming their arrows at the faces of Frankenstein, Wolfman,

and Dracula as well as other interesting objects that will improve their skills as archers. GO

ARCHERS!

Uncle Joel

Marksmanship

Hi! This is Uncle Harry from Marksmanship letting you know that this is the 18th year of

marksmanship! Can you believe it’s been that long that this activity has been running and we’re

still having fun. We have newer targets that are better for keeping score and competition, as well

as the animal silhouette targets that our campers still have fun shooting. But don’t forget, the

number one rule is safety first – ALWAYS!

Uncle Harry

BOATING & FISHING

Boating on the “Arrowhead Lake” is quite the treat;

a pond no less just 3 feet deep!

With specialist Uncle Scott & JC Uncle Matt;

You’re sure to discover the lakes many wonders just like that!

Hand boats, peddle boats, canoe boats and row boats,

All stand at the ready to navigate the moat.

So grab your life jacket and even a net,

Then head out past the tower to see what to catch.

The fish are too cunning, the frogs are as well,

So make it a turtle sliding down a splash swell!

You’ll never get bored, you’ll never be ignored,

With an experienced or expert license in hand,

You’re sure to command the respect of your friends here at Lake Arrowhead Land!

Uncle Rich Eckel & the lakefront gang

5

TENNIS

Things are going great so far at tennis! The campers are all very enthusiastic and excited to learn

new skills and play fun games. The senior campers are playing competitive games such as

"Around the World" and "King/Queen of the Court". Our intermediate campers are improving

their skills by playing games like "Jail" and "Tennis Baseball". I see the campers making

progress daily and I can't wait to see each camper improve in the upcoming weeks!

Aunt Erika & Aunt Katie

Arts & Crafts I

Art 1 at Arrowhead has been full of fun, fantastic projects this summer with Aunt Wendy!

Decorating those cute and functional string bags with fabric paints and markers was a huge hit,

and many campers love to tote their belongings in them while walking around camp. Another

favorite and very messy project (!) was the creation of our paper mâché shakers and bowls that

the campers got to paint once they dried. Girls and boys alike have been so cooperative and

helpful when the time comes to clean up. Counselors have been doing an amazing job assisting

Aunt Wendy and helping their campers with all of the projects, including air dry clay pinch

bowls, sculptures made without glue (purposefully meant to be challenging!), real stone

arrowhead necklaces, beading, weaving, trinket boxes and picture frames made out of popsicle

sticks and well, you get the picture! It seems that our campers can't get enough of those Pearler

Beads! Aunt Wendy has been busy ironing away while campers make some of the most intricate

designs, be it horses or fish or penguins- great job, campers! This week we've begun our tie-

dying project with Senior camp girls- it'll be neat to see how colorful and unique everyone's

shirts will turn out! Art 1 will continue to bustle with many more wonderful projects on the way

in these next 3 weeks... Stay tuned!

Aunt Wendy

GYM / PE

In Phys Ed., campers had a blast outside playing Capture the Flag, Kickball, Human Statues,

Bubble Games, Flag Tag, and the highly popular HuggyBear. We then moved in the Rec. Hall

with J.C. Rachel for Gymnastics. Campers learned Tripods, Handstands, Forward Rolls, and

some Ringwork before applying their newly acquired skills to an intense obstacle course.

Throughout the last weeks of camp campers will compete in Ultimate Frisbee, Team Building

Games, and Water Week.

Uncle Chris

SUGGESTION BOX CON’T

9

As you can see, our campers sure have been busy these past few weeks.

Here’s just a sample of what’s been going on since our last edition.

BUNK NEWS

GIRLS

SQUABS

The Squabs are continuing to have an amazing summer! The heat can't slow us down!

SYDNEY SCHWARTZ, KEIRA CHEYNEY and GRACE SAMMARTINO are our

adventurous superstars at pioneering and ANGELINA MAMMUCARI, CHARLOTTE

PATEL, and SARAH LEVENSON are showing off their awesome swimming skills.

BELLA KAMINSKY, RACHEL MIRIN and CATALINA CASTILLEJO are great artists at

Arts & Crafts, and MICAYLA COHEN, DYLAN ZWIEBEL and TALIA CHERRY are

having a blast at gymnastics. Aunt Julie, Aunt Jen and Aunt LeShell are having so much

fun with this bunk of incredible girls!

PENGUINS

Wow! What a great second half of the summer the Penguins are having! Our sixth

week of this amazing summer has been Tournament Week and, so far, SYDNEY

ROSEN has been declared mini-golf champion! At time of publication, we have a tight

three-way tie for the fishing championship between JORDYN WEITZMAN, AMANDA

MARKIND, and BRYNNE MUSHLIN that will be decided later this week. AVA

BARSH and LILA SCHWARTZBERG have both moved up in their respective

Instructional Swim groups, with Ava joining the Minnows and Lila becoming a Goldfish.

AVERY ESKIN and ALLISON HOYT continue to be our dedicated boaters during

Boating and Fishing as they fearlessly navigate the (not-so) treacherous waters of Lake

Arrowhead. JOELLE PEARLSTEIN and ANNABELLA CONFORA can always be

counted on for a huge smile and hugs to start each day at morning lineup. OLIVIA

GUTOWSKI is always ready to play any game, whether it is Gaga, musical hoops, or

diving for goggles during free swim, and ALEXANDRA DORE is not only a great friend

who loves walking and talking with all of her Penguin pals, but is always ready to help

tidy up the Penguin bunk to be ready to win the next bunk inspection. For being

flightless birds, the Penguins can't believe how fast this summer is flying by!

ROBINS

The Robins are still going strong here at ARROWHEAD this summer! Our future

baseball stars are MARAVILLAS CASTILLEJO and YORDI HART-CARMICHAEL who

are masters when it comes to the batting cages. LAUREN KELLEY and ERIN HILL

have been staying cool in the pool while swimming their way into minnows. CASSIDY

LEHMAN enjoys flying down the waterslide and VALERIE CURELLO continues to

teach us all techniques for playing mini golf. At Lake Arrowhead, KAYLA STEPHNEY

and MARGO KRIWONOS enjoys taking out boats & KATIE STARKE catches fish after

fish and EMMA LASORSA loves to show us her creative side at Arts & Crafts. Great

job Robins!

10

AZTECS

The Aztecs continue to impress here at camp! Each week the girls are improving and

having an amazing time! Last week CARLY BEITER and GABRIELLA TURNER

enjoyed having an extra period of free swim on one of the hottest days of the summer!

SARA STANGER had an awesome time getting her face painted during club. NIVA

COHEN has some serious soccer skills and is really helping her league team out!

ALEJANDRA CASTILLEJO can always be found fishing down at the lake. Pals BRYN

ROWLES and AVA THUR loved trying out yoga during club period. SARAH PATEL is

having a great time shooting arrows down at archery! HANNAH REED and SARAH

JONES look forward to Wednesdays and Fridays when they have horseback riding!

HELENA LEBEAU and GABRIELLE DERUSSO are eagerly anticipating this weeks

tournament week activities! Friends ROXANNE MILLER and EMMA PORTNOY are

enjoying the activities and animals at nature! We were very excited this week for

MELANIE SALL to return to camp while we sadly said goodbye to ALEXA

SILBERSTEIN.

HOPIS

The Hopis have had a bittersweet past couple of weeks as we are saying goodbye to

two great campers and friends ALYSSA LECKY and EMMA MAZZIO. We will miss you

girls so much and hope you have a great remainder of your summer. The Hopis girls

have still managed to have a lot of fun despite their friend’s absences. In gaga we have

had some great wins by JILLIAN MATUNIS, EVA GREENBERG, and ANNA

MAIROWITZ. PEYTON MOORE and FABIOLA CASTILLEJO also had great wins

during practice games in tennis. OLIVIA KALINER had a really high score after the

batting cages competition. During pioneering CECELIA KURLAND and LEAH

WEITZMAN did great on the catwalk, while AVERY NACHMAN, ALLISON BOSWELL,

and ISABELLA LAZARUS tried to conquer the rock-wall. MEGGIE SEBBY has been

having a great time at horses learning different styles of riding and how to care for the

horses, and OLIVIA LYONS and GWEN STEWART had a great time running through

the sprinklers last week to try and beat the heat with their friends. Aunt Chelsea, Aunt

Jenna, and Aunt Michelle are so proud of all the Hopis girls and wish them a great rest

of the summer and a fabulous school year!

INCAS

Time sure flies when you are having fun! All the girls have improved on various skills

throughout the various activities at camp. ALEXA LESNIAK, JANINE MALSEED, and

DAYNA MUSHLIN have wonderful swimming skills and perfect dives. TESSA

PEARLSTEIN is the true Robin Hood as she shot the top score of the bunk during

archery. TAYLOR LEVINSON is the next big tennis star with her awesome forehand

and she was the last one standing during a game of “Jail.” ISABEL GARCIA and

SKYLAR ZACHIAN enjoy going down the waterslide and had some of the furthest

slides in the Incas bunk. ARIELLE ABT, TESS HAXTON, MIA SCHWARTZBERG,

ESTHER WERBACH enjoy racing each other down the zipline during pioneering.

JOELLE ROTHBARD, LYDIA FRORER, and LANEY GOLD-RAPPE are the quickest

rock climbers in the bunk. ASHLEY WALD is the master at the cat walk and HOLLY

CROCKETT and LINDSEY SCHWARTZMAN enjoy the low ropes courses, whale

watching, and tire swings at pioneering. All the girls have been showing their

athleticism and sportsmanship during league play. SUTTON GROSSINGER and the

rest of the girls in the bunk who are in the play have been working hard during play

11

practice and the whole bunk cannot wait to see the Wizard of OZ! All the girls in the

Incas bunk are having a blast at camp. There may only be a few more weeks of camp

but there are a lot more things to come and memories that will last a lifetime!

MAYANS

The second half of the summer has been wonderful with the Mayans. ANNALISE

KAROLITZKY and ISABELLE GOCHTOVTT are the newest Mayan members and they

have jumped right in having so much fun. GABRIELLE BECKER and ANNA

DANOWITZ have really been enjoying those nice cool pools. PERI

BLUME and HALLIE BENDER are on their way to becoming the next Robin Hood

showing us their skills at archery. GABI KORIN has been doing an awesome job down

at driving range. Watch out Tiger Woods, it looks like you have some

competition! When it comes to caring for the animals and Mother Nature OLIVIA

SAKEL, ARIANNA MAMMUCARI, and LILIANNA GRIBBEN are our go to girls. Down

by the lakefront, MOLLY GILLSTON and LEIA HOCKSTEIN have been catching so

many fish! You can always count on PERI RABBINO, EMILY BROCKMAN,

and SYDNEY LAVIN to be out on the lake taking a boat for a spin. It has been a few

weeks since the Mayans have seen AVA PETCHON and ISABELLE WALSH, but we

miss them and can’t wait for the return. This summer for the Mayans has been simply

amazing and we are going to enjoy our last few weeks together!

DIAMONDS

The Diamonds continue to shine bright as we make our through the remainder of the

Summer! ANNIE CROCKETT loves to play around in the pool and is always eager to

"dive right in." YEMI HART-CARTMICHAEL and NOA WEBNER enjoyed a special

camp treat, Zumba. Both girls really got into the dance moves and showed off their

stuff. MEGAN HILL is a killer down at the driving range. She has both great form and

power! BRIGID HOGAN has been doing great down at the archery range, where she

has gotten many arrows upon her target. REBECCA JALBOOT and NATALIE LUTZ

both showed off their dramatics at music & dance. The girls participated in some script

role-playing and really got into character! HA NGAN TRAN and LINA ZHU have really

shown us how to play the game of ga-ga! Whether it be hitting or dodging the ball, both

of these girls are a shoe-in to make it til' the end of the game. JULIA RINAUDO made

a beautiful paper mache bowl in arts & crafts recently and we're looking forward to

seeing more of her artistic side in the weeks to come! ALEXA MAY RICHARDS and

REBECCA ROUNTREE have both really gotten into our senior girls newcomb league.

Both give their very best and provide both of their teams with lots of points! JENNA

WEISMAN has been attending gymnastics often during our club period and is doing a

great job at all of the different tasks, perhaps Olympics bound? SYDNEY ZUBATCH is

by far one of our greatest kickball players, when she steps up to the plate...watch out!

ZOE MAZE and CAROLINE MILGRAM both attended another special camp treat,

Cheerleading, where they learned two different cheers and performed them perfectly!

SARAH ROGALSKI really enjoys her time up at horses and is getting some really fun

riding time in several times a week. The Diamonds truly have been having a wonderful

summer and are sad to see it come to an end. We will be making the very most out of

our last few weeks!

12

EMERALDS

The second half of summer has been great and the Emeralds have been keeping very

busy! You can always find CINDY ALTMAN and MELISSA HUNN at play practice

preparing for their roles in The Wizard of Oz. We cannot wait to see their final

performance! AMANDA DEVINE, who is also a camp actress, is an all-star

fisherwoman and is constantly reeling in fish at Lake Arrowhead. MORGAN FERRY and

LARA JUDKOWSKI can be found at the gaga courts winning game after game.

HANNAH BOOK just loves being in the art room where she works on new

masterpieces and makes beautiful bracelets. JESSICA WEITZMAN can typically be

found at pioneering during her club periods where she and I raced down the zipline just

last week! In instructional swim, GERI KOHN moved up to the shark level. She's in the

highest level in our bunk! ABIGAIL PERLSTEIN is a pro at marksmanship. She is quite

the sharp shooter! OLIVIA KINSLEY and JENNA YOUNGS can be found at horses

along with RACHEL EISEMAN where they are constantly learning new skills and riding

techniques. The girls are becoming expert horsewomen! ALANA BURGESS and

PAIGE GOLDBERG show off their abilities during instructional swim where they are

working on their strokes. We're excited to have our full bunk together next week when

SOPHIA PETCHON will arrive! I am excited to see what the rest of the summer holds

for the Emeralds! It is sure to be exciting and full of laughs!

OPALS

The Opals may be diminishing in number, but not in spirit! We are still playing hard and

having fun! Nothing can stop the Opals! As a matter of fact, ELEANOR KENNEDY-

LANGE, SAMANTHA ENGLISH, AVA MIMS, and SARAH BENDER have all selected

Newcomb during club. They tear up the court, strategizing where to place the ball to

maximize points for their team. They've really shown the older girls how the game is

played! RACHEL BODENGER volunteered one of her club periods this week to learn

our MTV Day dance, and offered to help teach all of the other girls in the bunk. It's a

good thing, too; Aunt Tracy is NOT a substitute for Ginger Rogers... HARLEY CHOW is

burning up the ropes in Pioneering, as she flies with fervor down the zip line! LORNA

CORNELY has had fun showing the boys what girls can do better! She plays Street

Hockey at club, and really gives those tough guys a run for their money! Speaking of

competition, JORDAN MILLER may be one of our most fearsome competitors on the

Ga-Ga court. When she plays, she plays to win! In a more relaxed atmosphere, our own

Dr. Doolittle, JENNY MARGOLIS has really been enjoying her time at Nature, where

she talks to the animals and creates obstacle courses for the gerbil. LUCY JONES, one

of our favorite thespians, is also doing her part to make sure the bunk is ready for our

MTV Day dance. She has created some of the choreography, and is open to the ideas

of her bunkmates, JCs, and counselors. She is a consummate (volunteer) professional!

We are having so much fun, it is sad to think we only have a couple of weeks left. On

the sunny side, though, the next two weeks bring so many fun activities, there won't be

any time to think about summer's end!

PEARLS

The Pearls are continuing to have an awesome summer. Just last week KALI WRIGHT,

SARAH SCARBOROUGH, and SYDNEY RAGAGLIA joined our bunk and we are so

fortunate to have them. Aside from that we managed to survive the heat wave on

13

Thursday and Friday by spending a lot of time in the pool and air conditioned buildings.

Specifically, we spent some time at art where the girls made paper mache bowls.

NICOLE GORMLEY, NATALIE MCCARTHY, OLIVIA EBNER, ALEX TOLASSI, HEIDI

FLIEGELMAN and DANIELLA DARIA had some extremely artistic bowls. Last Friday

during one of the extremely hot days, we managed to make it to Pioneering where we

tried to make our own man-made breeze by racing down the zipline. I was lucky enough

to be able to participate by racing BRENDA DLUHY down the zipline, however, she

beat me by a fair amount. This week is tournament week and we have some girls that

really stood out during certain activities. At fishing, RACHEL HUNN caught a catfish

and secured the award for catching the biggest fish out of our bunk. Then at archery,

ALYSSA BOWLES dominated and beat out every girl in our bunk by hitting the target

every time she shot an arrow. Also, at tennis KALI WRIGHT was an all-star and beat

every girl during a game of jail. Because it is tournament week our newcomb league

was extremely competitive. Two girls that contributed significantly to their teams were

KATIE PHILLIPS along with SYDNEY TOWELL. They helped keep their team's dream

of winning alive.Today, the Pearls got creative (and a bit messy) during Art by tie dying

t-shirts. However, there were a few that really stood out while making their

masterpieces: AUBREY THROWER, SAVANNAH STRAFF, SARAH HEDLEY,

CASEY BROWN and HAYLEY DIECKHAUS. Next week we have MTV day coming up

and the girls are very excited to debut their dance in front of the rest of the senior camp.

Some girls that have really stepped up by making the dance have been LESLIE

GUERIN, COLLEEN TRESSEL, KATIE PHILLIPS, and ELIZA ZIMMERMAN. Also,

thanks to the parents who came to out for parents day! I know it was extremely hot but

we were thrilled to have you all.

SAPPHIRES

It is hard to believe that summer is soon coming to an end. Time sure flies when you

are having fun with such funny, spirited, and outgoing girls! The Sapphires are happy to

welcome returning camper KIRYNN DAVIS to our bunk! She has already jumped right

in to all the activities at Arrowhead with her friends. We really miss SARAH YOUNG

and can’t wait until she returns on week 7 to join in all the fun! During the past few

weeks of camp the Sapphires have been busy! Our bunk equestrians, CAROLYN

SPELLACY and KELLIE MCINTYRE, love to trot their way around camp. When the

Sapphires are at pioneering, watch out for DEVON ELSE, NINA KORMAN, and

RACHEL GOLDSBOROUGH as they fly like Tarzan down the zipline. While they

conquer the zipline, LAUREN KOELLN is busy making her way through obstacle

courses on the low-ropes! Over on the softball diamond, KAITLIN MCCOMBS, CARLY

PETROFF, and GRACE JALBOOT always swing for the fences! JONA LIEBERMAN,

OLIVIA GARBER and VICTORIA ECKEL-FRESTA have awesome tennis swings that

can’t be beat! While cooling off in the air conditioning, HOLLY YU, CARLY PAUL, and

DEIRDRE HOGAN demonstrate their outstanding creativity and artistic talents at Arts

and Crafts. As always, the Sapphires cannot be beat at Newcomb. Especially when

ALEXANDRA GINSBURG, NICOLE HERGET, LAUREN MILGRAM and JULIA

AMSTERDAM are serving! As you can see, the Sapphires are an athletic, creative, and

fun group! This summer has been one of the best yet, and I cannot wait to see you girls

in summer 2012! 

14

BOYS

CUBS

The Cubs are leaving their paw prints all over Arrowhead as the second half of summer

quickly approaches! We are happy to welcome a new Cub to our pack, MICHAEL

COLODONATO, and we are all very impressed with his skills at the batting cages!

Looking for a dance partner? RYAN LE and CHASE BARSH can be found bustin’ a

move during Music and Dance, especially when showing off their fabulous Robot skills!

Watch out for CADEN SHUSTER! He’s training for the Tour de France each week as he

speeds quickly around the Big Wheel track. We all agree that BRIAN SCHWARTZMAN

and OWEN SAKEL should audition for the next Superman movie, these boys love flying

down our ziplines! KODY RAIZEN and BEN VERNEKOFF can be found running up the

largest hill in camp as they hustle to continuously take turns sliding down our waterslide!

Need a veterinarian? Call MASON SCHWARTZ! He is a huge animal lover who shows

off his knowledge about all types of creatures during Nature! Watch out for ZANE

BARSH! He is becoming one of our best boaters and can easily navigate around our

lake during Boating and Fishing! Regardless of where they are at, the Cubs are leaving

lasting impressions on all Arrowhead staff and are known for making friends with

children in all bunks. You are doing great boys! Enjoy your summer!

WOLVES

The fun continues as the Wolves near the end of an awesome summer! GaGa is a wolf

favorite with WILLIAM WINN, EVAN SILVER, and BENJAMIN WATERMAN turning

into professional players. NOAH MATUNIS and PAUL GIACOMUCCI love visiting

nature to learn about different types of rocks and volcanoes. MAX FOGEL has moved

up in swim to be a goldfish. Now he can dive off the diving board! JAKE KUDRICK,

LUKE ZUCKERMAN, and GAVIN VERNEKOFF can be found zipping around on a big

wheel bike during big wheels and knock hockey. REED GALL and SEAN

GREENBERG also enjoy zipping from trees on the zip line at pioneering. During Arena

time, JACKSON LAZARUS and JAMES KORIN are becoming soccer stars. CHARLIE

KURLAND and DIMAS CASTILLEJO enjoy a relaxing paddle boat ride out to the island

in Arrowhead Lake where they dock their boats and explore the tower. We love

watching these boys blossom and interact with friends here at Arrowhead.

MUSTANGS

The Mustangs did it! We made it through record high temperatures, and did it while still

having a blast! The inner fish came out of HARRY RINAUDO, ALEX PETCHON, and

JACK SHUSTER during extended swim. Under the shade ZACHARY BOOKBINDER,

JOSEPH CASTELLO, JUSTIN ZIEFF, and JACOB BRAUNFELD flew down the zip

lines at pioneering, and SAMUEL BOSWELL and COLE CHENEY really enjoyed Aunt

Amy's egg experiments at nature study. Fortunately the heat wave only lasted a couple

days, and we were back to our regular schedule. So NATHAN MIRIN, AVERY JONES,

and JACOB ROSS were back to smacking the baseball out of the Jr. Athletic field while

ETHAN RABBINO and MATTHEW BECKET hit homeruns and triples at the batting

cages! On the other side of camp BARLOW HERBST and AARON HOCKSTEIN took

the boats out by themselves to check out the turtles at the pond. With all of this fun we

are having we still miss our first four weekers, MURPHY PEGG, ANTHONY

DERUSSO, and REX MATARRAZO.

BRAVES

The Braves have survived some of the hottest days of camp last week. We did our best

to beat the heat and had fun while we were at it. While at Street Hockey, JORDAN

PEARL and ETHAN ZUCKERMAN were amazing in goal! They were stopping shots

left and right. JACOB KRIMSKY, JACK ZWIEBEL, BARON HANTIG and BENJAMIN

KINSLEY provided much of the offense during street hockey and played well with their

teammates. We now are well into another exciting week at camp. Yesterday at boating

and fishing PJ KOZLOFF caught the biggest fish I've ever seen come out of the lake. It

was a nice, big large mouth bass! NOAH GOLDSTEIN also caught a fish while SAM

VERNEKOFF managed to pull in a turtle! At GaGa, DREW DEMARINO, DANIEL

BROCKMAN and LEVI HANCOCK added a few more "gaga knuckles" to their resumes

while also winning a few rounds. At Phys Ed., EVAN PICKER, SIMON ROSEN and

YONI WEBNER did a tremendous job following directions and cooperating with their

bunkmates. Way to go guys! Our bunk really has been doing a great job getting to all

of our activities and following directions. I would like to thank my Braves for their efforts

at camp and encourage them to keep it up and keep having fun as we approach the end

of camp.

WARRIORS

The end of camp is near and the Warriors are still hanging tough. SPENCER

ROSENBAUM, ZAC CHRISTMAN and EZRA THAU were all impressive in the practice

Road Runner race. They will represent our bunk in the Road Runner race during week

7. JARED ZIEFF won the Archery competition on Monday with some great accuracy on

his shots. ALEC ESKIN had the quickest time climbing up the rock wall this week at

Pioneering. I am very proud of CHRISTOPHER SEELIG and GABRIEL KUTNER as

they conquered their fear and both climbed the big rock wall and both reached the top.

BRANDON GALL, AUSTIN GAUGGEL and AARON GROSSMAN will be representing

the Warriors in this years play. The Wizard of the Oz is the play and we are looking

forward to the show. COOPER LISS and CHARLIE HURWITZ demonstrated their

outstanding soccer skills during friendly play this week. ARI ABRAMOVITZ continues

to shine in the pool, he has worked very hard and improved his skills greatly. LEO

FLORA has been the captain of the lake at Boating. He has led his troops on some fun

adventures on the boats and is a pleasure to watch in doing so. The last two weeks are

eventful and exciting. I’m looking forward to competing in all the fun but will be sad to

see the boys leave. Thanks for a great summer.

CHIEFS

The Chiefs have been having a great summer! NICK BOWLES and HARRISON

WEINGARTNER have been awesome down at marksmanship. LOGAN EBNER, EVAN

KING and MAX TODARO have been making some really neat and interesting projects!

DAVID CHERRY and RYAN KIM have been catching lots of fish down at fishing!

MARSHALL BECKET won the chiefs road runner race, and will run in the big race next

week! SHAUN GORMELY, BEN WINN, and JAVIER KUTNER have been getting really

good shooting at archery! LEO PERLSTEIN and ELI FELDMAN have been kings of the

gaga court once again! AIDAN GLACKIN and JACK ALTMAN climbed the ropes

course and flew down the zip line with ease. BEN HOYT, MATTHEW ENGLISH and

RILEY LISGAR have all been really improving during instructional swim on their dives

and back stroke! DANIEL KANE dominated our dodgeball game this week and was a

16

tough out to get! The Chiefs are looking forward to the rest of the summer at Camp

Arrowhead!

APACHES

The Apaches are having a great time at camp! We welcome new campers DOMENIC

COLODONATO, JOSH MILLROOD, MAX CURELLO, MATT LASORSA, and

ANDREW RAGAGLIA. During ga ga, HENRY MILLES and MAX SEROTA have really

stepped up their game! JACOB KERSTEIN, ETHAN RAPPAPORT, and CAMERON

WAGNER continue to do great things at archery. We always look to them for a

bullseye. DEAN CONROY continues his domination of Lake Arrowhead. BRADLEY

MARKIND and WESTON COPLEY continue to show great things on the softball field

both hitting and fielding. AIDAN DUTWIN contiues to impress all of us at driving range

while BEN KOZLOFF and CADE ROONEY continue to step it up in tennis as well. We

all look forward to seeing AXEL KENNEDY-LANGE in the Arrowhead production of

"The Wizard of OZ". We are all looking forward to NOAH LIPSITZ returning to camp!

We hope everyone is having a great summer!

PIRATES

The Pirates are more than half through the summer. We have lost some friends along

the way; but, the Pirates also gained new friends. The new comers have fit in perfect.

Two Pirates that arrived half way through summer named ELI BEAUBIEN and

CHRISTOPHER MOLLER are excellent Ga-Ga players. New guy WILL GOTANDA

and WILL STEINER seem to not be able to get enough of horseback riding. CHASE

COHEN must be named after Chase Utley, because it shows on the baseball field. He

made a great two hop scoop on the baseball diamond. Other Pirates who excel in

baseball are TYLER LEHMAN, ROBERT ENGLISH, and KIERNAN DEVANE. The

final new member of the Pirates is MAX HARRIS, and he is an excellent tennis player.

The Pirates and tennis cannot be mentioned without talking about OWEN WEISMAN’s

excellent forehand shot. The Pirates are also a talented bunk when it comes to

Marksmanship. COREY SIEGAL, NICK FOLEY, and EVAN BOOKBINDER seem to

hit the bull’s eye every round. That is very impressive. The Pirates had a few bunk

members who were not street hockey players. However, over the summer ZACH

WATERMAN and JOSHUA BROWN have become outstanding players. Our

adventurous Pirates at pioneering are SAMSON HURWITZ, BRETT SEELIG,

CHRISTOPHER ZACK, and JAMES FOERSTER. Each child is very excited to fly

down the zip cords, and catwalks. Both are quite the adrenalin rush. The Pirates also

consist of intense table tennis players. GRAIDEN MILLER and ZACH STARR will

accept any challengers. Finally, the Pirates had a scrimmage against the Phillies in a

soccer match. Stand out players AIDAN MCCARTHY and STEVEN MCCOMBS

helped secure a win with goal scoring and defense. This summer for the Pirates has

been the best yet!

EAGLES

The Eagles began the second half of the camp season with a couple of really exciting

dodgeball matches against the Pirates and Phillies. Leading the way for the Eagles

were ELIHU BEY, DAVID SCHEER, NOAH RUBIEN, and BOBBY BECKET. On the

football field, you can find JUSTIN LEBEAU, WYATT KARSON, BLAKE

17

LISGAR, TOMMY TURNER, and JEFFREY VANSCIVER catching touchdown passes.

Adjacent to the football field ZANE WALSH and ALEXANDER NAVROSIDIS are

tearing it up on the Gaga court. Next door at mini-golf, LUCAS GRIBBEN and ROBERT

SILVER are dropping putts from all lengths and angles. JACK COHN and JASON

AOYAMA display great friendship as they select the same club day activities every

week. EITAN KATZ and JULIAN BRENMAN serenade the bunk and the senior camp

with their amazing Justin Bieber impressions. Down by the boating docks, you can find

ELI WONNACOTT, ZACHARY MUNIN, and CHRISTOPHER PALMER displaying their

improved boating skills and planning the1st annual Eagles boating race. JUAN

CASTILLEJO and JARRED SLOMINE still frequent the waterslide and they keep

surpassing their personal bests. The Eagles have been such a great bunk this summer.

PHILLIES

The Phillies are still going strong even as our summer begins to wind down. It is

amazing to see how much the boys have improved in sports and activities that we

participate in each day at Arrowhead. MATTHEW PEARL, LUKE TODARO and

MAXWELL COPLEY all made it to the finals in this years "Robin Hood shoot out" down

at Archery. The boys went into a final shoot out and the winner will be announced on

trophy day. ANDREW DANOWITZ is no longer in a cast and has came back strong.

Andrew is finally getting to enjoy the pool and is hitting the ball further then ever in

baseball. BRADLEY ELLIOT and JACOB LEHMAN have been hitting the balls well on

our Arrowhead Driving range. Bradley and Jacob both can drive the ball far and it will be

interesting to see who takes the bunk trophy for driving range this year. KYLE

KENNEDY and JADEN WEISMAN continue to spend a lot of club time on the

Arrowhead tennis courts. I hear that the competition is fierce for the "Around the World"

competition that has been ongoing through the summer. Good luck Kyle and Jaden i am

sure you will both do well. TYLER WIEHSNER, RYAN LEWIS and JASON

FLIEGELMAN have been noticed making great improvements in the swimming pool. It

is nice to hear from your swim instructors that you guys have been working hard; nice

job! The Arrowhead lake has been really active this year and it has been awesome to

see so many BIG fish being caught. MITCHELL TAYLOR, BENJAMIN PIXLEY,

and LUKE MCGRATH are our fishermen and it is rumored they provide many of the

Arrowhead fish sticks we enjoy at lunch. Welcome back to CHRIS HOUDESHEL from

his cross country trip. Chris is an excellent singer who toured with some other boys in

the mid-west and the west coast. Congratulations Chris and we are looking forward to

seeing you in the Arrowhead play this year.

I would like to congratulate our two participants, JASON BROCKMAN and STEVE

ROSS who will be representing the Phillies in the 2011 Road Runner Race. These boys

came in first and second in our bunk race and I am sure they will do us proud in

the Road Runner. I would also like to congratulate BENJAMIN ABT who will be

representing the Phillies and defending his title in the upcoming pentathlon.

FLYERS

The second half of the year has the Flyers excelling in all areas of camp. The Flyers could field

a baseball all-star team with LUKE DITTON, ANDREW GALLEN, JACOB HARRIS,

ALEXANDER KRAUSS, LUKE HIGHT and BOBBY STEINER. MAXWELL BECK and

JONAH FRANKEL have been recording some record drives down at the driving range. BENJY

FELDMAN and NOAH LAVIN are our top competitors in the Arrowhead hockey rink. EZRA

KRUGER can be found on a regular basis navigating a vessel on Lake Arrowhead. JOHN

18

GAYNOR, EZRA BEAUBIEN and JACOB STANGER spend alot of their time bravely zipping

across camp down at Pioneering. COLLIN MOORE has a future as an NFL kicker/receiver as

he leads the league in all categories. DAVID PESSIN has been shooting the bulls eye out of

the targets down at Marksmanship. ALEX WAXMAN is the king of the GA GA octagon.

BRETT RICHARDS is one of our top basketball players. This highly talented group has truly

made this one of the best summers ever for the Flyers!

SIXERS

As the 2011 camp season passes the halfway point, the Sixers continue to excel. It is a

diverse, friendly and interesting group of young people. The newest Sixers, MIKE

DWECK, JAKE BODENGER and PHIL MCCUTCHEON, are outstanding athletes,

especially on the baseketball courts and baseball fields. ZACH BECKER also has done

a fantastic job in baseball and is an aggressive hockey player. STONE LAWSON,

CHAD COHEN and MAX CANTO have improved dramatically at swimming and are

continuing to move up the ladder at the pool. NICK HARRIS and WILLIAM CHALKER

are both well rounded campers who participate in everything and do so with

enthusiasm. KYLE MORGAN has a legitimate shot to win the bunk's tennis

championship but he will be getting serious competition from another one of our

outstanding athletes, DYLAN BUSCHE. EVAN PETCHON has been a monster in the

hockey rink and ALEX KULP has been a fantastic football player and an improving

baseball player. KENET BICKLEY has done extremely well in baseball and basketball

leagues and JIMMY MCGETTIGAN is a greatly improved baseball player and has been

solid in our weekly dodgeball games against the Flyers. BOBBY CAFFREY and KYLE

MORRISEY enjoy all aspects of the camp experience and have done an excellent job

both on and off the athletic fields. JUSTIN HEIDIG continues to be an outstanding

athlete and his basketball team is currently the team to beat in leagues. MAX MILLER

is a bunk leader and JACOB KEITHS is an absolute pleasure to have as a camper. He

has tremendous enthusiasm and a contagious positive attitude. Once again, a special

thanks to JCs MARK OSIS and SEAN HEIDIG for all the great things they do!!
