Three Step Process : The Posse selection process, known as The Dynamic Assessment
Process (DAP), is a three phase process that takes place over several months.
Round One- The first phase of Posse’s selection process begins with Large Group
Interviews for all nominees. Nominated students are required to attend this interview to
be considered for the Posse Scholarship. This first interview will include up to 100
nominated students from all over the city. Outstanding nominees from this round will be
called back to the second round as semi-finalists.
•This is your time to shine! Show Posse what you got because you are trying to leave a
strong first impression to move on into the second round.
•Be friendly and engage in conversations. (DON’T BE SHY! )
•Be yourself, act normal.
•Some activities may seem silly, but they are only trying to get to know you. Remember
they have a couple of hours to try to get a understanding of who you are as a student.
•Be ready to write an essay on why you should be selected to be a Posse Scholar? (They
only give you around 15 minutes.)
•Know your G.P.A, SAT Scores, ACT Scores, and Class Rank to fill out a data sheet.
•Note: People will be walking around taking notes. Don’t mind them continue being
Round Two- The second phase of Posse’s selection process is conducted in the form of a
formal interview. The interviews are scheduled by students themselves. Along with being
called back to an interview, students will receive paperwork that includes a) an excused
absence/ early dismal letter if case the interview is during school hours and b) a
questionnaire regarding the Posse schools. The semi-finalist will be asked to bring to
bring the questionnaire, an object that represents them, a writing sample, your sat scores,
act scores, official transcripts, and a resume.
•Dress Appropriate, business attire would be appropriate.
•Analyze each school thoroughly, they will ask questions to test your knowledge on your
top three choices
•Have EXCELLENT explanations on why you choose your top three options.
It would be great if you can have a mock interview with your counselor, assistant
principal, or teacher. This will allow you to get a quick grasp of what to expect in your
Know what extracurricular activity has meant a lot to you, what’s your passion in life,
who inspires you, what do you do in summers, what’s your favorite musical artist/band,
If you don’t understand a question, ask them nicely to rephrase it for you, or take a
minute to think about what they are asking you.
Be ready for anything! They will throw random questions to you.
Don’t let your nervous get the best of you, this interview along with all the documents
you provide will determine if you advance to the last phase of POSSE.
The object that you take that portrays who you are can be a shoe box, medal, campaign
poster, pictures, camera, poetry book, basketball, etc There is no right or wrong object
to represent you!
Round Three- After completing the interview you will be receiving a phone call or letter
informing you if you have made it to round three, a finalist of the scholarship. Once you
are a finalist of Posse you will be asked to fill out the application of the school that has
been chosen for you. In addition, they will ask you to write your personal statement
along with the required supplement and a resume. You will come one more time to the
Posse Foundation office turn in the application and interact with the all the finalist of
your Posse school. Admissions of such school will be present as well. You will play
games just like the first round, but now the admissions of each school along with the
help of Posse will select what students will be awarded the scholarship. Good Luck!
