21 Years Parading!
Congratulations to Lucan St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee who have just pulled off Lucan's 21st St. Patrick's
Day Parade. They are unique in that all four – Peter Brady, Barbara Cummins, Mary Meehan and John Sheeran,
are the original committee who started out with a great idea 21 years ago!
Not even the foot and mouth scare in 2001when parades were cancelled all over Ireland stopped them – they
simply bided their time and ran the Lucan Parade in September of that year.
The Parade itself is a great tribute to all the Volunteers around Lucan, evident by the many large groups taking
part each year be they sporting or community. Well done also to the local business community for their
continuous financial support even in these cash-strapped times.
And thank God that the sun shone once again over Lucan's Parade – He has never let us down! Well done to all
who were involved, and may we have at least another 21 St. Patrick's Day Parades to look forward to.

Did you know that there is a GIY (Grow It Yourself) Ireland Branch here in Lucan?
Grow it Yourself (GIY) is a registered charity (CHY 18920) which aims to
inspire people to grow their own food and give them the skills they need to do so
successfully.
They do this by getting GIYers together online and in community groups around
Ireland so that they can learn from each other and exchange tips, ideas and
produce. GIY meetings and membership are free and open to people interested
in food growing at all levels, i.e. from growing a few herbs on the balcony to complete self-sufficiency, from
beginners to old hands.
At last month's meeting, things like soil testing and composting were discussed, as well as potato and seed
growing. Leaflets on all these matters were also available. Nothing was too taxing and individuals were quite
willing to put in their tuppence worth!
