FUNCTION
This is journey level work involved in the cleaning and orderly maintenance of buildings and grounds of county buildings.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is the journey level class in the Custodial Worker series. Appointment to this level requires that the incumbent be
performing the full range of duties and meet the qualification standards for the class.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Work is performed under the general supervision of a higher level of authority.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    1.    Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming
    2.    Gather and empty trash
    3.    Service, clean, and supply restrooms
    4.    Clean and polish furniture and fixtures
    5.    Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees
    6.    Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment
    7.    Make adjustments and minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilating, plumbing, and electrical systems
    8.    Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications
    9.    Steam-clean or shampoo carpets
    10.   Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors
    11.   Clean and restore building interiors damaged by fire, smoke, or water, using commercial cleaning equipment
    12.   Drive vehicles required to perform or travel to cleaning work, including vans, industrial trucks industrial vacuum cleaners
    13.   Follow the procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent damage to floors and
          fixtures
    14.   Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and checking
          electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created
    15.   Move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks
    16.   Mow and trim lawns and shrubbery, using movers and hand and power trimmers, and clear debris from grounds
    17.   Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems
    18.   Remove snow or ice from sidewalks, driveways, and parking areas, using snow shovels, and spread snow/ice melting
          chemicals
    19.   Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties
    20.   Set up, arrange, and remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, and scaffolding to prepare facilities for events as
          directed
    21.   Spray insecticides and fumigants to prevent insect and rodent infestation

WORK CONTACTS
Regular contact with associate personnel and infrequent contact with general public to answer inquiries.

CONDITIONS OF WORK
Work is subject to varying post or job site assignments and may be subject to call-back, on-call status and overtime and irregular
schedules including completion of work assignments on weekends and holidays. Work is also subject to traveling and
performance of moderate to strenuous manual labor. Involves occasional - frequent moderate lifting of 25 - 50 lbs.

All employees of Mohave County are subject to immediate callout when an emergency, disaster or breach of homeland security
occurs. All employees are considered to be available for these types of events and will immediately respond, in accordance with
County Emergency Operations Plan, when directed by the Chairman of the Mohave County Board of Supervisors, County
Manager, the Homeland Security/Emergency Management Coordinator, or when directed by his department director/elected
official and/or immediate supervisor. Such call to respond and assist may involve those activities assigned to his regular job
responsibilities and incorporate other non job related duties as necessary and required of an employee to respond to the
emergent matter at hand. An employee’s response to these matters may require the working of unusual, long hours over a
possibility of an extended period of time with infrequent breaks or rest periods. An employee who is working with an
accommodation must meet with their supervisor and department director/elected official to discuss their requirement for
response.

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Practical knowledge of:

                Cleaning solvents
                Basic maintenance of heating, cooling, ventilating, plumbing, and electrical systems

Skill in:

            --use and care of equipment, tools, and materials used in custodial activities.



            --establish and maintain effective working relationships with associate personnel.

            --understand and follow, quickly and accurately, oral and written instructions.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
One (1) year actual experience as a custodian OR an equivalent combination of experience, education and training which
provides the desired knowledge, skills and abilities.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Must provide acceptable driving history at no cost to the County.
