Course Blog & Wiki
By default, there is a course blog and course wiki in each course. Students will find the link to these under Course Tools. By default only the instructor can add content. The instructor can allow students to add content by changing the default settings via the Control Panel. Course blogs and wikis do NOT copy over to new courses. Course blogs and wikis are available to ALL students. They cannot be restricted to a subset of the course users.
Individual or Group Blogs & Wikis
These are also known as Content Area blogs and wikis. They are set up and accessed via Content Areas in the Blackboard course such as Course Documents, Week One, etc.
These types of blogs WILL COPY from one course to another. These can be set up for an individual, a group, or all users in a course.
Private Journals (Applies to Blog Only)
This is a blog set up to allow single or multiple students’ access. If multiple student access is enabled for a Private Journal, students can only see their entries. They CANNOT see other student entries. Instructors can choose to allow students to view Instructor entries. If enabled, ALL students can see ALL instructor entries. In other words, while students can only see their entries, ALL students can see EVERY entry made in the blog by the instructor. Instructors SHOULD NOT USE new entries to make PRIVATE FEEDBACK to an INDIVIDUAL student in a MULTI-STUDENT Private Journal. To make private notes to one student in a multi-student Private Journal, the instructor should add a comment to the specific student’s entry or edit the student entry. Instructors can EDIT student entries to include instructor feedback and attach a file. Files can be attached to entries but cannot be attached to comments. Students can edit their previous entries and new entries Instructors can edit student entries and their own entries
