Oregon Chapter Wins Ethics Award http://www.cpcusociety.org/page/80428/

Congratulations to the Oregon Chapter, which won the Society’s 2006 Ethics Awareness

Award for its unique approach in celebrating Ethics Awareness Month in March. The

chapter, which received a $100 check at the 2006 Leadership Summit, held a special

three-hour continuing education (CE) seminar, featuring former FBI Agent Harry

Burton. The chapter invited Burton to speak about his investigation into a case involving

Louisiana’s former governor and its former insurance commissioner, and the handling of

insurance companies that were being “liquidated.” The investigation eventually brought

Burton to Oregon. See a photo of the check presentation and find out how other

chapters celebrated Ethics Awareness Month. http://www.cpcusociety.org/page/79665/

Members Give Society High Marks in Member Satisfaction Survey

http://www.cpcusociety.org/page/49462/

How satisfied are you? This question was asked of more than 2,200 randomly selected

CPCU Society members in January and February 2006, as part of the Society’s update

of its Member Satisfaction Survey. The research found that awareness and usage of

Society member benefits and services generally increased from 2003, when the survey

was last conducted. More importantly, members’ overall satisfaction with the CPCU

Society, and the value they place on their membership, increased significantly in 2006

from already high levels in 2003. Check out the survey’s findings, and make sure you

are taking advantage of all your member benefits and services. Put your CPCU Society

membership to work for you today! http://www.cpcusociety.org/page/49462/

WE’RE “SPREADING THE WORD!”

May Visibility Spotlight Winner Featured in Massachusetts

Newspaper

http://www.cpcusociety.org/page/53563/

Cynthia L. Langill, CPCU, CSP, a loss control manager at Utica Mutual Insurance in

Wakefield, MA, recently spoke to the Society’s Central Massachusetts Chapter about

teen driving risks. “Car crashes are the leading cause of teenage death. And it’s far

ahead of whatever’s second and third. Ten teens are killed a day in teen-driven vehicles.

It’s an epidemic,” she said at the meeting. This quote was displayed in an article, entitled

“Risks on the Road: Teenage Drivers,” by Mark Melady, of the Worcester, MA, Telegram

& Gazette. The chapter invited driver education instructors from high schools and driver

education businesses in Worcester County to attend the event, which is part of its 2005-

2006 Community Good Works Project, said Langill, a member of the Society’s Boston

Chapter. Read more in the May Visibility Spotlight. In recognition for her “Spread the

Word!” efforts, Langill will receive a business card holder with the CPCU Society logo.

Get the recognition you deserve! To be considered for the Visibility Spotlight, send an

e-mail to visibility@cpcusociety.org with details on how you “Spread the Word!” Or send

negatively affected their reputations. In the May CPCU eJournal article “Sustainability

Risk Management,” Dan R. Anderson, Ph.D., CPCU, discusses why he believes that

sustainability risks are evolving into one of the critical risk areas of the twenty-first

century. Read it today.

timely article by Martin E. Murphy, CPCU, chief operating officer of The Jacobson

Group:
