A common problem is dry hands, along with a feeling of tightness, itching or flakiness.

They may feel rough and uncomfortable to others whom you may come in contact with.

This is caused by the dry skin which are on the hands. This skin needs to be treated

effectively in order to get the hands back to smooth and gentle touch.

Dry Hands – The Causes of Dry Hands

The condition can be caused by improper hand washing, the use of certain cleaners like

soap etc, mixed with hot water can prove detrimental to the skin. The use of sanitizers

and washing of hands very often will cause dryness. It is important to stay hydrated,

because dehydration will cause dry skin. It is advisable to keep away from alcohol or

beverages that contain caffeine. Sodium is a common chemical in food and too much of

it will cause dehydration. Dry hands can be caused by allergic reactions, this occurs

when u come in contact with something you are allergic to. So it is important to use a

glove when doing chores or even while visiting relatives or friends at the hospital. Low

humidity especially during the winter season can bring such condition because moisture

is taken away from the skin. If you use lotions and ointments for the condition and it still

remains dry, then you may have hand eczema and only a proper diagnosis by a physician

would determine this. Also as you age the skin produces less sebum and various other

changers such as menopause.

Dry Hands – Remedies to Dry Hands

In order to remedy the situation you should stop using hot water and hard or harsh soap

to wash hands or do kitchen chores. Hand lotion or moisturizers should be applied every

time you wash your hands to keep the skin moist. Before going to bed it would help to

apply the lotion or ointments to the hands. That would ensure they look healthy the next

day. When going out especially on a sunny day, it is recommended that sunscreen is

worn. Wearing a glove in cold winter weather helps keep the moisture and also drinking

lots of water daily will keep the body hydrated. It is also important to practice

exfoliation, this will remove the dead skin cells. When lotions or ointments are applied,

they will penetrate into the skin. If symptoms persist then consult a doctor, who will

make a diagnosis and prescribe the right treatment for your dry hands.
