Consultation Statement
This statement has been prepared in relation to the above regulations. The
statement sets out the consultation strategy implemented by the Council to ensure
compliance with the regulations.
The Draft Supplementary Planning Document and its associated Sustainability
Appraisal Report have been subject to public consultation in accordance with
national guidance. The SPD consultation period of 6 weeks lasted from 29th January
until 11th March 2009. It involved a press notice, website, libraries and direct e-mails
to 341 organisations, including statutory consultees, councillors, local MPs,
community groups and residents’ associations.
The six weeks of public consultation generated a total of 38 representations. A
summary of representations is provided in the Representations Statement. The
Statement sets out the council’s response to each representation and makes
appropriate recommendations on amending the SPD where necessary. In total 5
stakeholders made 38 representations, of which 18 were accepted and resulted in
changes to the draft SPD. General issues raised included ensuring that the SPD
takes into account the expected introduction of the Community Infrastructure Levy,
that the document highlight major growth areas and health pressure points within
Barnet and that existing deficiencies are identified within the adopted document.
