Program Information
The University of Colorado offers a course of study leading to an MBA with a Major in Health Administration. The
purpose is to prepare men and women capable of eventually-after appropriate years of practical experience in
responsible managerial positions-serving the public as chief executive officers or senior administrators in complex
multi-service health care organizations.
The curriculum is balanced between general administrative sciences and concepts relating to health and health
services systems, while emphasizing management skills which heighten basic analytic and decision-making processes.
These skills are emphasized because they are used by both top-level managers in deciding on the overall strategy of
their institutions and by junior managers in administering organizational components and programs. The emphasis is on
guiding the student to master application of theoretical, conceptual, and quantitative materials rather than on presenting
purely descriptive information. The program is located in the Graduate School of Business Administration (AACSB
accredited), and thus builds on the strengths of atypical urban MBA program that permits students the flexibility to
move between full-time and part-time status. The program enjoys the strong support of health care providers in the
Rocky Mountain region.
Curriculum Description
Students enrolled in the Master of Business Administration - Major in Health Administration must complete a
minimum of 48 semester hours of graduate-level course work to receive their degree. The curriculum is based on a
series of structured learning sequences. Most of the courses are available in the evening to enable working students to
pursue the degree on a parttime basis.
Admission Procedures and Requirements
Requirements include a baccalaureate degree. Preference is given to students with a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
for the last 60 credits (undergraduate or graduate) and a Graduate Management Admission Test total score of at least
