Notation Durations to Drum Samples
1.) Log on to Sharepoint. Find the folder named “Drum Set Samples” under
the shared documents on the Yogis page. Download the 4 audio files in
that folder (right click, “save target as” or “save link as”).
2.) Open Audacity. Click the “project” tab at the top of the screen and
select “import audio”. Browse to where you saved the files from
Sharepoint, and select “click track 200 bpm”. Click “Open”. The file
should look something like this on the screen:
3.) Click the “project” tab at the top of the screen and select “import
audio”. Browse to where you saved the files from Sharepoint, and
select “hi hat”. Click “Open”.
4.) Using the selection tool , highlight the hi hat sample.
5.) Press “Ctrl + C” on your keyboard to copy the audio. Press the right
arrow on your keyboard once. Press “Ctrl + V” on your keyboard to
paste the audio in on the same track.
6.) Press the right arrow on your keyboard again. Press “Ctrl + V” on
your keyboard to paste the audio in on the same track.
7.) Perform step 6 until you have the hi hat sample copied 8 times. Your
screen should look this:
8.) Click the “project” tab at the top of the screen and select “import
audio”. Browse to where you saved the files from Sharepoint, and
select “bass drum”. Click “Open”.
9.) Using the selection tool , highlight the bass drum sample.
10.) Press “Ctrl + C” on your keyboard to copy the audio. Press the
right arrow on your keyboard once. Press “Ctrl + V” on your keyboard
to paste the audio in on the same track.
11.) Press the right arrow on your keyboard again. Press “Ctrl + V”
on your keyboard to paste the audio in on the same track.
12.) Perform step 11 until you have the bass drum sample copied 4
times. Your screen should look this:
13.) Click the “project” tab at the top of the screen and select “import
audio”. Browse to where you saved the files from Sharepoint, and
select “snare drum”. Click “Open”.
14.) Using the time shift tool , shift the snare drum sample to the
right until it lines up with the bass drum sample above it.
15.) Using the selection tool , highlight the snare drum sample.
16.) Press “Ctrl + C” on your keyboard to copy the audio. Press the
right arrow on your keyboard once. Press “Ctrl + V” on your keyboard
to paste the audio in on the same track.
17.) click the “fit project” button near the top of the screen. This
will show you the entire project horizontally. Scroll down to see the
snare drum track.
18.) Using the selection tool , Highlight the silence after the
snare drum sample.
19.) Press delete on your keyboard to cut the audio from the track.
20.) Scroll up to the top of the page. Click the “X” in the upper left of
the click track to remove the track.
21.) Click “file” from the drop down tab at the top of the screen.
Select “Export as WAV”. Find a place to save the file, and name it
“Basic drum beat”. Click save.
22.) Click “file” from the drop down tab at the top of the screen.
Select “New”.
23.) Click the “project” tab at the top of the screen and select “import
audio”. Browse to where you saved the “Basic drum beat”, select it and
click “Open”.
24.) Using the selection tool , highlight the entire track.
25.) Click the “effect” tab from the top of the screen. Click the
“repeat” tab. Type in “3” for number of repeats.
26.) Click the “file” tab at the top of the screen and select “export as
mp3”. Save the file as “your name basic drum beat” and email the .mp3
to ryogis@bkhs.org.
