                                  Ecozone Choice Board

Objectives - Students will investigate and demonstrate an understanding of the regional
diversity of Canada’s natural and human systems.


Expectations-Students will a) describe the processes and interactions that shape Canadian
ecozones b) explain how natural and human systems change over time and from place to
place c) communicate the results of geographic inquiries, using appropriate terms and
concepts.


Students will choose ONE task from the choice board below to submit as independent work.
Once you make your selection you can pick up the specific details and rubric for your choice.
This will be worth 10% of you final grade and is due on: Wednesday, January 18th, 2012

A) Intra personal Instructions
Select an Ecozone and develop a persuasive essay explaining why this Ecozone is the best
place to live.

1. You must make connections to the topics learned throughout this semester. Thus you must
include information about:

            Population (density, distribution, ethnic make-up, age).
            Environmental Concerns

2. Your persuasive essay needs to convince the reader to come and visit your chosen
ecozone. Your essay must be two pages in length (minimum) 1.5 spacing 12 size font. You
must include a minimum of three (3) references in APA format.

B) Musical Rhythmic
Research a Canadian Songwriter and find a song that describes an Ecozone. Complete a
song analysis of how this song applies to one of the Ecozones studied in class.

1. You must make connections to the topics learned throughout this semester. Thus you must
include information about:

2. Your song analysis must be two pages in length 1.5 spacing 12 size font. You must include
a minimum of three (3) references in APA format.

Create a comic strip about your ecozone using Comic Life or GoAnimate (free download).

2. You must also submit a separate reference sheet with a minimum of three (3) references in
APA format on the information and facts that you present in your comic strip or animated
cartoon.

Select an Ecozone and create a persuasive presentation from the perspective of an employer
who wants to convince potential employees to move and work in his/her ecozone.

1. You must make connections to the topics learned throughout this semester. Thus you must
include information about:

            geologic history
            animal use
            Major Industries
            Population (density, distribution, ethnic make-up, age).
            Environmental Concerns of this era

2. You must also submit a separate reference sheet with a minimum of three (3) references in
APA format on the information and facts that you present in your concept map.

E) Logical / Mathematical
Create a map of your ecozone that identifies its unique qualities. You must also create a
climate graph, a population pyramid, for a major centre in your ecozone.

1. Your map will need to portray the following elements (perhaps in a legend) in order to
make the connection from the topics learned in this semester with your ecozone:

            the vegetation
            climate
            soil
            landform region
            geologic history
            animal use
            Major Industries
            Population (density, distribution, ethnic make-up, age).
            Environmental Concerns

2. You must also submit a separate reference sheet with a minimum of three (3) references in
APA format on the information and facts that you present in your concept map.

F) Body Kinesthetic
Construct a model or representation of an ecozone of your choice. You may use any medium
(clay, paper mache etc).

1. You must also include a written component that addresses the connection between your
chosen ecozone and the following items:

            the vegetation
            climate
            soil
            landform region
            geologic history
            animal use
            Major Industries
            Population (density, distribution, ethnic make-up, age).
            Environmental Concerns

2. Your written component must be 1.5 spacing 12 size font and no more than one page in
length. You must include a minimum of three (3) references APA format.

G) Naturalist
Complete a virtual field trip using Power Point, Prezi or Smart Board on a selected Ecozone
for a class who would be visiting.

1. You must create a slide show with a minimum of 12 slides to including a title slide and a
works cited slide. These slides must convey the connection of your ecozone to the following:

            the vegetation
            climate
            soil
            landform region
            geologic history
            animal use
            Major Industries
            Population (density, distribution, ethnic make-up, age).
            Environmental Concerns

2. Your slides must be brief (no paragraphs) and must include maps, pictures and graphs.
You must include a minimum of three (3) references in APA format.

H) Interpersonal
Create a story about your ecozone to tell the class.

1. You will need to write a fictional story that shows the connection between the following items
and the ecozone that you choose.

2. Your fictional story needs to be a minimum of two pages in length, 1.5 spacing 12 size font.
You must include a minimum of three (3) references in APA format based on your research.
