Description



Waterborne Metallic Acrylic Enamel





Special Features & Properties



• Available in Gold, Silver, Copper and a range of striking colours.

• A variety of application techniques can be used to enhance and develop colour and metallic reflectance

of this product. The striking radiance of the metallic is emphasised by the choice of application. They

look stunning when applied with texture, over textured surfaces and on surfaces that have a less than

perfect finish.

• Rheology modified to allow textured application and reduce the risk of sagging.

• High opacity means the application of coloured base coats is unnecessary.

• Block resistance – can be safely used where paint is in contact with other paint such as doors and windows.

• Excellent water resistance – ideal for bathrooms and laundries.

• Low odour – reduction in inconvenience and discomfort when re-painting.

• Furniture & cabinetry

• General living areas

• Commercial interior fit outs

• Textured wall coverings





Application Methods



• Airless spray: This method will give the finest finish. Best results are obtained using double atomising tips.

• HVLP: Low air volumes will create a textured finish. Higher air volumes will create finer finishes.

• Roller: Not generally recommended.

• Brush application: Not generally recommended.





Application Rates



12 – 15 square metres per litre per coat; paint requirements will be governed by texture requirements.





Gloss Levels



Gold ≈ 80%

Silver ≈ 80%

Scrub Resistance



The American Society for Testing and Materials – ASTM D2486

Gold 380 scrub cycles

Silver 500 scrub cycles





Volatile Organic Compounds Levels

Gold 7 gms/litre

Silver 7 gms/litre





Surface Preparation



• General preparation of the surface to be coated should be completed before commencing application.

• All loose material must be removed and surface damage or imperfections made good.

• The surface must be clean, dry and free of contaminants.

• On previously painted or coated surfaces compatibility should be evaluated before proceeding.

• The surface must be clean, dry and free of contaminants.

• Previously painted enamel and polyurethane – sand with stearate free sandpaper to remove gloss

and clean with a lint free cloth.

• Unpainted surfaces must have a coat of primer, sealer or undercoat applied.





Painting Requirements



New Paper-faced Wall board

Prep Coat Apply 1 – 2 coats of Easy Sand. When dry, sand with stearate free sandpaper

and clean with a lint free cloth.

Top Coat 2 coats of Metallic at 12 – 15 square metres per litre per coat.

One protective over coat of AcryGlaze Gloss may be applied to enhance durability.





New Timber joinery and doors

Prep Coat Apply 1 coat of Quick Prep, Easy Sand. When dry, sand with stearate free

sandpaper and clean with a lint free cloth.

Top Coat 2 coats of Metallic at 12 – 15 square metres per litre per coat.

One protective over coat of AcryGlaze Gloss may be applied to enhance durability.





Previously painted acrylic surfaces

All loose material must be removed and surface damage or imperfections made good.

Fill all cracks and nail holes, sand with stearate free sandpaper and wipe clean with a lint free cloth.

Stopping Repairs

The surface must be clean, dry and free of contaminants.

Areas with a build up of grime must be cleaned with sugar soap (or quality equivalent).

Prep Coat Apply 1 – 2 coats of Easy Sand. When dry, sand with stearate free sandpaper

and clean with a lint free cloth.

Top Coat 2 coats of Metallic at 12 – 15 square metres per litre per coat.

One protective over coat of AcryGlaze Gloss may be applied to enhance durability.





Enamel and Polyurethane

Sand with stearate free sandpaper to remove gloss and clean with a lint free cloth.

Prep Coat Apply 1 – 2 coats of Easy Sand. When dry, sand with stearate free sandpaper

and clean with a lint free cloth.

Top Coat 2 coats of Metallic at 12 – 15 square metres per litre per coat.

One protective over coat of AcryGlaze Gloss may be applied to enhance durability.





Thinning



Thinning not generally recommended, however for some applications a reduction in viscosity may

aid application.

To maintain optimum coating performance, reduce viscosity with AcryGlaze Gloss up to 100mls

per litre or alternatively add clean water up to a maximum of 50mls per litre.





Drying Times



Depending on such factors as film thickness, ambient air temperatures, humidity levels and air circulation the

general dry times are:

Touch Dry 15 minutes

Re-Coat Time 2 hours

Curing Time 7 days

Application of this product is not recommended where the surface and/or air temperature is less than 10˚C.





Clean Up



All equipment can be cleaned in water.
