Keeping Evacuation Routes Clear
Make Zero Accidents Your Goal
Purpose
Keeping students, visitors, and employees safe is a core
value at Madison College. In order to better facilitate
this, the Risk/EHS department is asking for your
assistance to keep hallways, doorways, and stairwells
free of hazards.
All college hallways, stairwells, and most doorways are
considered part of a primary or secondary evacuation
route, or means of egress.

Summary
Stands, tables, materials, and equipment shall be used
sparingly in all Madison College hallways and other high
traffic areas. Their use in stairwells and doorways is
prohibited.
If stands, tables, materials, or equipment are used, they
should be out of the way and not create bottlenecks,
tripping risks, or other hazards.
Tripods and other sign stands have a tendency to be
unstable or pose a tripping hazard. Their use is
discouraged at all Madison College campuses, especially in
high traffic areas.
Utilizing bulletin boards, display cases, and TV monitors is
the preferred way to communicate events and directions.
Placing signs on walls with tape is prohibited.
