2/24/09
The following are the meeting minutes from the Health and Safety Committee 2/24/09.
Committee members present: Tom G., Toni, Jeanne S., Joan M., Julie H., Dave H. , Mike P.
The Agenda
1) Update on classroom soap dispensers and chemicals in the classrooms. --
Outcome: Tom and Toni will be making visits to classrooms to ensure that all rooms have soap
dispensers, and to check that all chemicals are school approved.
Jeanne will identify locations in the building that may benefit from have (wall hung)
hand sanitization dispensers available.
2) Update on electrical status in classrooms.
Outcome: This situation is how to address the multiple electrical needs in each classroom. In
November, 2008 SPPS sent in 2 electrical inspectors to identify how to address electrical needs.
The first option to purchase multiple surge protectors (i..e electrical strips) was viewed as a
potential "problem" by the electrical inspectors. thus BVS has not purchased additional electrical
strips. The second option was to add electrical outlets to rooms. BVS continues to wait for an
update from the electrical inspectors. Staff are reminded that multiple electrical cords being run
to one outlet or circuit could become a problem.
3) Staff training for CPR.
Outcomes: Jeanne will work with the staff development committee to create a data base for all
certified CPR and First Aid staff. The data base will be created by Bernae or Teri, for the BVS
office and Staff Development Committee access and update.
4) CPI and the Crisis Response Team.
Outcome: Rich V,. will be asked to come to the next H & S meeting to give an update on the
#of CPI certified staff, the effectiveness of the Green Team", and any plans for future CPI
training.
5) School Classroom emergency bags.
Outcome: These are the bags that will be in each classroom, and will be available in case of
building evacuation ( i.e. fire, bomb, etc). Each bag will have a list of supplies. When the bag
arrives to the classroom, the classroom staff will need to add all necessary student specific items.
Joan M. will work with students to equip the bags, and then forward to each classroom. The bags
will be identified by room number and not by teacher name. KEEP IN MIND, THE BAG IS
TAKEN OUT OF THE CLASSROOM ONLY WHEN THE BVS IS BEING EVACUATED.
6) Fire Drills
Outcome: Remind staff that students are not to stop for their coats or other items, when a fire
alarm is activated. Toni and Tom will draft a Fire drill procedure directive, that will include helping
to secure for the pool area--supportive emergency clothing , towels etc....
7) Tornado Drill Evacuation Plan.
Outcome; The Tornado drill evacuation ( where do we go?) will be updated by Toni and Tom and
distributed within one week.
8) Look-down Procedure

how all areas can be "locked down". 2) The request to get a "key pad" for entering from the
schools plat ground areas. 3) How to contact students who are in the community. 4) Explaining
the importance of why each community outing requires a phone contact #. The lock down
procedure will be drafted by Toni, Dave , Tom.
9) Pool and body excrement , fecal matter, poop, you get the idea. The committee agreed that
pool contamination must be addressed in a more formal and deliberate manner. Deb F., Toni,
Mike P , Mike P, and Jeanne S., will meet ,to outline concerns and necessary responses.
10) BVS has been directed to update its Site Specific School Emergency School Plan by 6/1/09,
