SCHOOL CARD SCHEME – SOUTH AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT
Please scroll to the bottom of the page for contacts and links.
Do you need to comply?
No, but your school may receive less State Government Recurrent Funding if you do not.
Conditions of compliance
The School Card scheme provides financial assistance towards the educational expenses
incurred by families who meet the eligibility criteria. Schools may receive assistance to pay
for books and materials and camp expenses of full time students from low income families
who meet the eligibility criteria
In addition, School Card numbers are a significant element for determining the Needs Based
allocation of State Government recurrent grants.
If you have to comply what do you have to do?
Follow the procedures for accepting School Card applications, entering data onto the data
proforma and forwarding it by email to the School Card section of DECS by the due date
each term.
School Card – Drought assistance – to assist with the cost of school fees - is available to
students that reside in an exceptional circumstances area who have been directly affected by
the drought. The drought assistance criteria are specifically for those applicants/parents
whose family gross income was above the School Card income limits. Eligibility through this
special process is dependent on the combined family gross income for the year predicted to
be within the School card income limits due to a family’s income being directly related to
farming activities which have been affected by the drought or due to loss of employment or
a reduction in time/wages related to the drought.
What are the consequences if you don’t comply?
Your school may receive less State Government Grants.
