1. Sketch in a slide arrow to indicate the direction of the translation that this object has

undergone.

2. In a slide rule, R stands for right, L for left, U stands for up, and D stands for down.

On either grid paper or dot paper, draw an object near the center of the page, then

perform each of the following translations to create a new image of the object. Mark

each translation using a slide arrow and record the slide rule.

a) (R5, D2)

b) (L0, D3)

c) (R1, U4)



3. On a new piece of grid or dot paper, draw an object. Translate it according to a

slide rule you have written. Use this image as a new object and translate it again

according to another slide rule. Copy your original object and the second image only

onto a new piece of paper and ask a partner to determine the single slide rule that

describes the translation of the object onto the image. Compare their single slide rule

to your two separate rules. Is there a relationship between the rules?
