You will work in groups to design a CIVIL WAR Theme Park. You should use textbooks, readings, the Internet
and other pieces of information about the Civil War to help you design your park.
Students will:
Research settings, people, vocabulary, food, entertainment and other pieces of information about
the Civil War to design a theme park. Everything in your park must be from the Civil War era.
Design theme park rides/attractions, menus and the lay out for a Civil War theme park using the
research/information (BE CREATIVE)
Consider Theme Parks in General:
Think about the rides and the significance of their names.
Think about the type of food served (look for foods that were common in the Civil War Era)
Represents a “theme” throughout the park (North or South) or
Divide the park into different “sections” and give each section a specific name
Attractions such as plays, shows & other entertainment is provided include music from the era
Costumes are related to the theme of the park
Souvenirs are sold throughout the parks (buttons, posters, toys etc.)
Use the above information to guide your guide through the design process!
Expectations:
*Completed & presented on time
*Create 5 “rides” and name them after a Civil War-era concept (person,
place, thing) (25 points)
*Create 4 “attractions” that will be offered in the park – name them and
explain what they will show/present (20 POINTS)
*Create 3 “food vendors” (restaurant or stands) and print out their menus for
us (most should be Civil War-era meals) (15 POINTS)
*Create 6 “souvenirs” that will be sold in your park – create an example of
each to show us during the presentation (30 POINTS)
*What will the workers wear? Design & show us Civil War-era style of dress
(10 POINTS)
TOTAL POINTS: 100
Diorama: Design the layout of the park – rides,
attractions & food vendors should be created in the diorama – (65 POINTS)
Write an entertainment script – this will be read during your presentation - - it
should “walk us through” your park design – include any information that you cannot
show us visually or that we may miss – explain how the Civil War material was
incorporated into the park – reasons for your choices (35 POINTS)
TOTAL POINTS: 100
Due Date: TBD
List of People in your group
Who is your Project Manager (Group Leader responsible for turning in the Project)
Project Manager will also help one of the other areas as well
Rides and Games Director
Food and Beverage Director
Entertainment Director
Gift Shop Manager
A rough outline of the design of your park
Each Manager and Director will need to turn in a list of ideas they have for their part of the amusement park.
These ideas should be realistic
There should be 10 ideas for each so that you can eliminate things that might to hard or too difficult. The ideas
my also be incorporated into another aspect of your park. The more ideas you come up with the better it is for
your group.
The majority of work will be done outside of class and during your study halls. If you need a pass see me.
I will be giving each group a manila folder. You will be required to turn in TWO progress reports informing me
where you are at on your projects. Each report is worth 10 points.
GROUP GRADES WILL BE AFFECTED IF YOUR PROJECT IS NOT TURNED IN ON
TIME. CHOOSE THE MOST RELIABLE PERSON IN THE GROUP TO TURN THE WORK
IN!!
You will also have an opportunity to grade the people in your group.
IF YOU DO NOT CARRY YOUR WEIGHT YOUR GRADE WILL BE LOWER THEN THE
