Ginger Snaps Paper topics
This paper is to be two to three pages in length. It is to be typed in Times New
Roman font, 12 point font, and all margins are to be 1 inch or less. The paper must be
double spaced. You should avoid the following: “you,” “I believe,” “I feel,” “In my
opinion,” and “I think.” Please also note that punctuation is inside quotations, not
outside. When you proof read, which you must, make sure that your thesis statement is
clear and is contained in the opening paragraph.
Each of these topics is meant to give a direction. Within each, different aspects can
be explored. Remember to have your thesis in mind before writing. These are NOT
thesis statements. You must come up with a thesis statement on your own. In all cases,
be sure to cite specific examples. You must provide evidence to back your thesis, to
prove your point.
1. In writing “Ginger Snaps”, Karen Walton told a story about being a teenager.
How do the events of the film, and the progression of the characters, reflect this?
2. Karen Walton plays with typical high school gender roles thought the film
“Ginger Snaps”. In what ways does she do this, and most importantly, why does
she do it?
3. “Ginger Snaps” is very much a film about transformation. Who changes over the
course of the film, how does it happen, and what are the results?
4. At first glance, the relationship of the Fitzgerald sisters in “Ginger Snaps” seems
to be destroyed by an unfortunate werewolf attack. Was this relationship perfect
to begin with? Examine the friendship of the two sisters, their outlook on the
world, and the evolution of their relationship throughout the film.
5. Why did Ginger have to die? Bridgette was holding two different things at the
end of the film. Why did Karen Walton (the writer of the film) choose the knife,
and not the syringe, for ginger?
6. A topic of your own. Be sure to have a sound thesis and the necessary evidence
to back it up before you begin. You must clear your topic with me first.
