Blackwater Wildlife Refuge
S1 – 3.5 mi loop which was too wet to go on.
S2 – small loop around the shore. Bald eagles on the other shore. Driving after the loop.
01 – large eagle nest on top of a pine around this point.
S3 – lookout tower is gone. Good views. Bald eagles far away.
S4 – another small loop. Rather dry and pretty.
07-08 – shortcut.
12 – exit of the Blackwater Refuge.
S5 – parking for the hunting club land at Hooper’s Island
14 – gravel up to this point. Pond with mallards north of here, which I went around partially. I forgot to
put a waypoint where the very muddy SUV road goes off to the right.
15 – I went off the lake to the shore and saw the light, but not the wreckage.
18 – there is a parking right before the bridge of the Hooper Island where we stopped and saw the
Saw 2 pairs of bald eagles and 1 single.
Trees were Loblolly Pines, Hollies and some sort of Oaks.
Next time either bring full rubber or part rubber shoes.
