Civil War-era Adjustable Wrench
A typical 19th century wrench, this piece in particular includes an engraving which reads,
“Collins & Company Hartford Patented Oct. 10, 1865.” This tool would be an essential and
common fixture in any Civil War-era workshop.
New York Times, September 27, 1863

includes five columns of text with eyewitness accounts of the battles that took place in Georgia.

Civil War-era Surgical Kit
This is a traveling surgical kit made by James Martin of Albany, NY. James Martin was a minor
maker of surgical instruments from 1843 until 1876. The carrying box is locked and banded for
rugged service. The scope of this kit makes it very possible that it saw combat in the Civil War. It
is marked J Martin, Albany.
Confederate C-Note
This piece of CSA currency features a portrait of Lucy Pickens, wife of the Governor of South
Carolina in the center, two Confederate soldiers pictured on the left and a portrait of CSA
cabinet member George Randolph on the lower right corner.

surrender. A star was added for the admission of Nevada (October 31st, 1864) and was to last
for two years.
Civil War-era Poker Deck
This is an authentic deck of 55 cards, with full-length, single-ended court figures. It was
common for soldiers fighting for both the Confederacy and the Union to play cards during
downtime.
Civil War Artifact Bag 6
Civil War-era Bullet Puller
This was a tool used by Civil War-era soldiers to extract jacked bullets from loaded cartridges.
Colors of the Irish Brigade
During its almost four years of service, the Irish Brigade lost more than 4,000 officers and men,
more than which served within the Brigade at any one time. It is of interest that more than 175
Civil War Medal of Honor recipients were born in Ireland.
The men who filled the ranks of the Irish Brigade were from all walks of life and social classes.
Attorneys served in the ranks alongside bricklayers. Some were landless tenant farmers from
the old country, who were reported to have been recruited shortly after exiting the immigrant
landing point at Castle Garden, and who spoke only Irish Gaelic. The majority of the rank and
file, however, were, urban workmen.
