John S. Nalivka is President and Owner of Sterling
Marketing, Inc. an agricultural economic research and
advisory firm located in Vale, Oregon. His formal education
includes a B.S. degree in Animal Science from the
University of Idaho and an M.S. degree in Agricultural and
Resource Economics from the University of Nevada at
Reno. He combines this education with 26 years of
livestock and meat industry market analysis as well as
many years of solid work experience on large family and
corporate owned cattle ranches in the Western U.S.
In 1991, Nalivka became a partner in Sterling Marketing
and subsequently, purchased the firm in 1994. Prior to
this, he was Director of Research at the Helming Group, a
food industry consulting firm in Overland Park, Kansas,
Market Information Specialist at Oregon State University,
and a livestock economist with the Economic Research
Service of USDA in Washington, D.C.
In addition to supplying ongoing market information and
pricing strategies to clients throughout the red meat and
livestock industries including producers, processors,
packers, banks, brokerage houses, and restaurants, Nalivka
has completed extensive research projects in topics
concerning the livestock and red meat industries and
natural resources. He has presented extensively to U.S.
and international audiences on topics of interest
concerning the red meat and livestock industries.
In 1999, Nalivka helped to form and became a partner in
Land and Livestock Advisory Service LLC. In 2002, he
helped to form and became a partner in Sterling Solutions,
LLC, a company providing source verification services to
the beef industry. Nalivka is a member of the National
Meat Association, the Idaho Cattle Association, and the
National Cattlemen’s Beef Association. He served on the
Vale School Board and the Advisory Board for the Vale
High School agriculture program and is currently a member
of the Vale FFA Alumni Foundation Board of Directors.
