About This Document: On November 15, acting Federal Housing Administration (FHA) Commissioner Carol Galante unveiled the latest annual report to Congress on the FHA insurance fund, and it shows the program's capital reserve remains below its federally mandated 2% threshold. The annual independent actuarial study reported that the capital ratio for the Mutual Mortgage Insurance (MMI) Fund remained in positive territory -- but just barely. The MMI Fund capital ratio dipped to 0.24%, according to the new report. Acting Commissioner Galante noted in a release announcing the findings that in the midst of a tough housing market, the FHA MMI Fund continues to be actuarially sound. The insurance fund supports the FHA single-family and reverse-mortgage programs.
