Open Letter To Gulf
Harbour Residents:
As you know the Gulf Harbour’s
Memorial Foundation sponsors many
events to raise monies for neighboring
charities. Our hope is to reach
$1,000,000 in total contributions to our
chosen charities. This year we begin the
season of giving with a candlelight
Holiday House Tour. Ten families in
Gulf Harbour have graciously opened their
homes for this holiday event. Advanced
ticket purchases will be $25.00/person and purchase at
the door will be $30.00/person.
The foundation will also sponsor a Tree Auction
Event on the same day for all community residents. This
is your community’s opportunity to demonstrate its
creativity, have fun and contribute your time to this
special event. We are asking every community in Gulf
Harbour to light up our neighborhoods by decorating
an artificial holiday tree to be placed in either your
community common area or displayed at the former
sales center. The trees to be decorated will be donated
to each community and a silent auction of holiday trees
will be held to benefit the foundation.
The Holiday House Tour and the Tour of Community
Trees will take place on December 4 from 5:00 p.m. to
8:00 p.m. Choose your theme, create decorations and
bring the holiday spirit of giving to Gulf Harbour. We
are counting on you to inspire your neighbors and
encourage their participation in Gulf Harbour’s Memorial
Foundation Holiday House Tour and Tree Auction Event.
Please commit to us your community’s participation
as soon as possible. We expect to have great fun!
On behalf of the Gulf Harbour Memorial
Foundation, we appreciate your participation.

Serious Drought Hits Southwest Florida
By Rod Middleton
The lack of rain this year has caused Gulf Harbour to be under
watering restrictions throughout our community by South Florida Water
Management (SFWM). Currently, Phase II restrictions are in effect.
What does this mean for Gulf Harbour? There are several ramifications
with which the Master Association must comply.
We have two sources for irrigation here in Gulf Harbour. The first
source is irrigation water, which comes from lakes on the south side of
our community. The communities using this water are under the control
of the South Florida Water Management District’s guidelines and as
such are only allowed to water twice per week during designated times.
Communities that do not obey the schedule can be subject to a fine by
SFWM. These communities include: Crescent Cove, Crooked Pond,
Grande Cay, Longpond Village, Millpond Village, Osprey Landing,
Osprey Point, Sagamore Village, Riversedge I and Tamarind Cay.
The second source of irrigation water is the recycled water which
the Master Association purchases from Lee County’s Sewage Treatment
Plant on Pine Ridge Road. This water is stored by us in the holding
pond next to Hole No. 8 on the golf course. The water is then pumped
to either the Golf Course or to the irrigation systems in Edgewater,
Palmas del Sol and the north side of Gulf Harbour. We are at the mercy
of the County as to how much water we receive. Currently, we are
receiving considerably less than normal. If both the Club and all
communities using the recycled water were to draw on the systems at
uncontrolled times, we would not be able to provide enough water
pressure for everyone. We therefore have set up the schedule below.
Currently, because the County has been providing less than normal
amounts of water to us, there may be times when we must shut down
the pumps in order to conserve the water we have in our holding pond,
which receives the recycled water.
Attached is the schedule listing the times of irrigation for all
communities within Gulf Harbour. Please note the asterisk denoting
communities that do not receive recycled water and therefore are under
the control of South Florida Water Management’s Phase II restrictions
currently in effect.
If you have questions regarding irrigation or watering restrictions,
you may contact South Florida Water Management at www.sfwmd.gov/
conserve or call the Water Conservation Hotline at (800) 662-8876 or
locally at (239) 338-2929.
