The "Real" Reason Moms Work at Home

A few weeks ago I posed a question in my weekly
e-newsletter for work-at-home moms. The question I asked
was, "Why do you work At Home? To be honest, I was a little
surprised by the comments.
When you think of someone starting a home business, you
figure they are probably in it for the money. The reason
being, you see so many ads that scream, "Work-at-home and
make $1000's of dollars a week doing nothing." So of course
we just figure the person is probably in it for the money.

under five years. In that time I started a home business biz
via a business opportunity and failed within the first year.
I then went on to write the book, "The Stay-at-Home Mom's
Guide To Making Money" for the simple reason, I wanted to
know how other moms out there were successfully running a
business from home. From there my business has grown
to a web site, weekly self-syndicated column, e-newsletter
and more books on the way. I'll be the first to say that I'm
not in this for the BIG money. If I was, I would have quite
about 4 years 9 months ago. No I'm here because I wanted
to raise my children myself. I wanted to breastfeed for as
long as I wanted, I wanted to take them for walks any time
of the day, hear their first words, teach them to plant a
garden and watch the seeds sprout, I wanted the
opportunity to be a full time parent and I wanted a chance
to use my own personal creativity.
Here's a few comments from other work-at-home moms on why
they work from home...
"I work from home so I can be there for my three children
and my husband. I have tried working outside the home and
always felt stressed both at work and at home. I wanted to
be able to do something for myself that didn't take away

"It's one word, pure and simple, 'Freedom.' I don't work at
home for the money, or because I hated my boss, or
because I got fed up with corporate America. I do it because
it's given me back my life. I own it. I run it. I am in total
control of it. To give you an example; the other day, my 15
year old daughter had just gotten home from school. I, as
usual, was at the computer. She comes into the office and
states, "I have some extra money, and there's a CD I'd like
to buy. When can you take me?" Well, I looked at her,
thought a minute, and said, "Let's go now." Kim Skinner, K

" I recently realized that my own answer has started to
evolve. A year ago I would have plainly and honestly said
"To be home with my daughters". But a lot has changed since
then. While that is still my most important reason, I would
now have to add that I work at home because... It makes me
grow and stretch as a person, I can never get fired, the
mistakes I make are MINE and I can learn from them and do
with them as *I* please, because my success will also be
MINE and I can learn from it and do with it what I please,
because I am a positive influence on my daughters, because I
can take time off to take my toddler to the doctor, or go
help in my 2nd grader's class, or whatever reason I choose.
Having my own home based business gives me strength,
purpose, and a confidence I've never known before. And on
top of all of that, I am blessed with the GIFT of being able
to be home with my wonderful children." ~ Julie Frost.
