Harrison College of Business
Department Programs
Harrison College of Business offers a large array of programs for traditional and non traditional
students. The Department of Accounting and Management Information Systems offers quality
education to students interested in variety of fields. Students completing the major in Accounting
have the foundation to pursue professional certification and a career in public accounting..
Students completing the Management Information Systems major or the Administrative Systems
Management major possess a foundation in business principles and computing technologies that
enable graduates to pursue both technical and managerial careers. Students develop hands-on
skills and experience by creating effective business applications of information technology to
support business organizations. The department also offers opportunities for students wishing to
pursue a degree in teaching business in secondary schools .If you are interested in a career
working with technology, chances are we have a program designed just for you.
Course Credit for CPS Certification
Southeast Missouri State University currently awards 15 hours of credit in the following courses
to individuals who have earned CPS certification.
AD224 Transcription Fundamentals
AD331 Advanced Word Processing
AD337 Administrative Systems Management Internship
AD341 Information Systems Procedures
EC101 Economic Problems and Policies
The credit is awarded upon completion of 12 semester hours and by request through Testing
Services, in conjunction with the Department of Accounting and Management Information
Systems
Honors and Awards
AITP (Association of Information Technology Professionals)- Pictured at left is Matt Quinn and
Dana Schwieger. Matt participated in competition at the National Collegiate Conference of AITP
in Omaha, Nebraska in the spring 2004. He received 2nd place for his paper entitled, "An
Analysis of RFID Technology."
AITP - A team of Southeast students won 5th place out of 56 other university teams in a
Network Design Competition at the National AITP Collegiate Conference at Purdue University.
Southeast accounting students finish 1st in the nation in IMA (Institute of Management
Accountants) National Video Showcase Competition in San Antonio, TX, in August 2002.
A team of accounting students from Southeast Missouri State University finished 5th in IMA’s
National Student Video Case Competition. Team members Jerl Huling, Gina Hamlin, Amanda
Hacker, and Holly Stockwell completed a 15-minute video and submitted the video to IMA for
blind judging. Aug. 2004
Accounting Students Excel on CPA Exam. Four recent graduates passed all four parts on their
first attempt. They include: Sara Westrich, Jeremiah Gibbons, Kelly Lambing, and Sarah
Berkbigler. “First Time Passers” are considered very special in the accounting profession
because less than 15 percent of the approximately 100,000 individuals attempting the CPA Exam
annually demonstrate this command of accounting principles. Aug. 2004
Four teams from the Harrison College of Business' capstone course, BA490 Business Policy and
Business Strategy, finished in the top four in a national team competition for a business
simulation game completed as part of course requirements for Summer Pre-session semester
2004. Dr. Keith Russell was the instructor.
In 2003, MIS faculty members at Southeast Missouri State University published 15 refereed
journal articles and 4 books. They have served on the editorial board for International Journal of
Electronic Commerce Research, International Journal of Electronic Healthcare, and Journal of
Management Theory and Practice.

Students place at the top of the Ohio Valley Conference and above the national average in first-
time pass rates on the CPA Examination
Southeast students also have placed nationally in the Institute of Management Accountants
(IMA) Student Case Competition. They placed 1st in the nation in 2002 and 5th in 2003.
Dr. Gary Johnson recently served as chairman of the board for the Missouri Society of CPAs
(MSCPA). He was the first full-time professor to hold the title and only the second educator in
the 94-year history of the Society to be so honored.
Employers of Southeast Missouri State University accounting graduates include, among others,
Big 5, large regional and local Certified Public Accountant (CPA) firms, the Missouri State
Auditor's Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Missouri Department of Revenue, the
State Department of Economic Development, school districts, community colleges and
universities, financial institutions, and international firms such as TG(USA), Nordenia USA,
Lee-Rowan, Anheuser Busch, Monsanto, Southwestern Bell, Ralston Purina, Boeing, Maritz
Inc., A.G. Edwards, Mallinckrodt, Purina Mills and numerous other financial, industrial and not-
for-profit organizations.

Management Information Systems (MIS) related jobs have been identified by the Missouri
Economic Research and Information Center (MERIC) as one of the three critical occupation
clusters in the State of Missouri and are ranked by U.S. Department of Labor as the fastest
growing occupations in the nation between 2002 and 2012.

Administrative Systems Management (ASM)
Administrative Systems prepares an individual for the career within a professional setting. One
should expect a stronger understanding in business and computing when graduating with this
degree.
Majoring in the Administrative Systems Management program at Southeast will provide you
with a strong background in essential business knowledge, as well as comprehensive computer
skills including word processing, spreadsheets usage, database management, presentation
graphics, Internet/webpage applications, and network installation and maintenance--all critical
for today's business environment.
You will develop management skills and understand accounting, economics, finance and
marketing through the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration core courses. In addition
to classroom learning opportunities, students experience a business internship which will further
your employment opportunities. Those who complete this program are very well prepared for
advancement in the global workplace.
Job opportunities include computer applications trainer, technology coordinator, local network
administrator, administrative systems manager, and information specialist.

Scholarships
Southeast and the our Department is dedicated to your education. We understand the concerns of
students and the difficulty of funding your education. This is why this University and the
government work together to award scholarships and grants to deserving individuals. Below you
will find details on some of the scholarships we offer and how to go about applying for them.
BOEING MIS SCHOLARSHIP
The scholarship will be awarded to those students who meet the following criteria: Declared MIS
Major, Overall GPA (Minimum GPA of 3.0 is required), Overall MIS GPA, Overall Business
GPA, Completed application form, One-page statement of the career objectives, Admitted into
the Harrison College of Business. Application deadline is October 15. To submit application,

BOEING MINORITY MIS SCHOLARSHIP
The scholarship will be awarded to those students who will be judged based on the following
criteria: Minority student, Declared MIS major, Overall GPA of 3.0 or better for courses taken at
Southeast, Composite ACT score of 21 or better, One-page statement of career objectives,
Completed application form, Minimum of 30 credit hours at Southeast, Statement of financial
need. Application deadline is October 15. To submit application, click here.
DEBBIE HEDRICK ACCOUNTING
Open to students majoring in Accounting with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and financial need.
Deadline is March 1.
SCHOTT AND VAN DE VEN CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS
Applicant must be an Accounting major with 60 hours and a minimum 2.75 GPA or be the child
of a present or deceased employee and have completed 30 hours with a minimum 2.75 GPA.
This scholarship requires a separate application available in Student Financial Services. Deadline
is March 1.
3011. BEATRICE DEMPSTER COLLEGE OF BUSINESS
Open to Business majors with a 3.0 GPA who have completed 45 credit hours. Financial need is
a consideration. Deadline is March 1.
3012. E. VICTOR WILLIAMS (LEGG-Learn, Earn, Give, Grow)
This scholarship is open to Marketing majors who have completed 60 credit hours with a 3.0
GPA at the time of application. Selection will be based on scholarship and service, with service
to the Marketing Club and Marketing Department given priority. Deadline is April 15.
3028. MILDRED WALLACE MEMORIAL
Open to students majoring in a business field who have completed 60 hours with a minimum
GPA of 3.25. Financial need may also be a consideration. Application deadline is March 1.
