SXSW 2010 Training Events
The Scottish Arts Council and Cultural Enterprise Office will be holding two training events for artists,
managers and others wishing to showcase at the SxSW Music Conference in Austin Texas in March
2010. The events will give bands, artists and managers the opportunity to hear from artists and
managers who have showcased at the event in the past; to meet staff from SxSW and hear how you
go about applying; to understand the process for securing US visas; to find out about the Showcasing
Scotland events co-ordinated by the Scottish Arts Council and the funding which is available to
support bands.

Perforations – week of live art
Dubrovnik and Zagreb, Croatia
25-30 September 2009
Perforations – week of live art is a collaborative project between arts organisations in the Balkans with
the mission to improve production, presentation and collaboration conditions for performance artists,
theatre practitioners and dancers from the region. Over 30 established as well as young and emerging
artists will be presenting performances as part of a showcase that will focus this year on artistic
production from the region of Central and Eastern Europe. This is a unique opportunity to get
acquainted with the leading artists from the area but also to meet other presenters and producers from
around the USA and Europe as well as Slovenia, Serbia, Macedonia, Romania, Bulgaria, Bosnia and
Croatia in many networking opportunities throughout six days in Dubrovnik and Zagreb. For more

The Marzee Collection: contemporary international jewellery
St Andrews Museum, Fife, Scotland

Fife Contemporary Art & Craft and will be showing a selection of 24 works from The Jewellery
Collection of Galerie Marzee at St. Andrews Museum in Fife. Galerie Marzee in Nijmegen,
Netherlands, is the largest known gallery in the world dedicated to innovative contemporary jewellery.
Its director, Marie-José van den Hout, has built an extensive collection of some of the best
international contemporary jewellery over the last 30 years. On show with the jewellery will be
photographic portraits of 24 prominent Fifers wearing the jewellery at a pre- exhibition luncheon event.
Providing the perfect backdrop to the event is the House of Falkland with its impressive arts and crafts
interiors. Internationally renowned chef Christopher Trotter will be preparing the food for the guests.
Fifer Contemporary Art & Craft will host a conversation with artist jeweller Dorothy Hogg and Marie-
José van den Hout for the Craft Curators’ Networking Event on the 23 September 2009. For more

2009 Res Artis Conference

This conference, ‘The 21st Century Art Residency and New Institutional Collaborations’, will provide
an opportunity to investigate the possibilities that arise when artist residencies, museums and other
institutions collaborate. It will provide a opportunity to consider the many benefits, both logistical and
conceptual, of establishing these various partnerships. The establishment of Gyeonggi Creation
Center highlights institutional collaboration as a long-term solution to the many difficulties facing
contemporary residencies. As such, this conference provides a forum for a reassessment of the field

4th World Summit on Arts and Culture

IFACCA’s World Summits are triennial events aimed at providing an opportunity to discuss key issues
affecting public support for the arts and creativity. The theme of the Summit is Meeting of Cultures:
Making Meaning Through the Arts and will explore how the arts – music, theatre, dance, literature,
film, visual arts and craft etc. – are seen by some as a possible bridge between cultures, to provide
safe, non-threatening points of entry into understanding the ‘other’. As well as catering for IFACCA
members and affiliates, the Summit is open to representatives of national arts funding bodies,
ministries of culture, culture networks, city and local government, foundations and the private sector,
and arts policy makers, researchers, artists, arts educators, administrators and anyone interested in

Culture Programme Conference

The second annual Culture Programme Conference and the mid-term European Culture Forum will
take place in Brussels. The Culture Programme Conference on Monday 28 September 2009 will
present past and ongoing projects (funded by Culture 2000 and the Culture Programme 2007-2013),
encouraging exchange of experience and good practice between cultural operators. The European
Culture Forum on 29-30 September aims to bring together around 600 participants from culture civil
society, Member States and EU institutions to take stock of progress in implementing the European
Agenda for Culture. Over two days, participants will exchange views and experiences around the three
strategic objectives of the Agenda: cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue; culture as a catalyst for
creativity; and culture as a vital element in the EU's international relations. For more information,

ARTMUSFAIR

The Scottish Arts Council is a partner of the 2009 edition of ARTMUSFAIR, an initiative of the
European Composers Forum, which aims to build partnerships, exchange music concepts, share
ideas and creativity, and learn about the latest best-practice examples of innovation in the European
contemporary music community. Registration is now open for ARTMUSFAIR/2009 to composers,
music publishers, record labels, musicians, music teachers, promoters, networkers, agents and many
more interested music enthusiasts from across the whole of Europe to the event. To find out more

The Hebrides Ensemble will be one group taking part in the event, with a particularly special
programme that involves their first Re:new partnership project. Re:new Music is a Europe-wide

together composers, ensembles and other organisations. The Hebrides Ensemble will be working with
Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen, performing works by this Danish composer alongside music by Peter

Third edition of the European Atelier for Young Festival Managers – call for interest
The European Atelier for Young Festival Managers is a unique, intense, one-week training programme
initiated by the European Festivals Association. The 3rd edition will take place from 23 to 30 October
2011 (the hosting city is yet to be confirmed) and pre-registration is now open. The Atelier is especially
designed for those who are working or have ambitions to become involved in programming or in
programming-related departments within a festival. The group of 45 participants, invited from all over
the world, have the opportunity to develop exciting new ideas under the professional and extremely
generous guidance of renowned festival managers coming from all over the world to share their rich

Laughing Waters Artist-in-Residence Programme

Nillumbik Shire Council in partnership with Parks Victoria invite contemporary artists to apply for a
residency of up to three months to live and work in either Birrarung, a heritage mud brick house, or
River Bend, a newly acquired residence with spectacular views over the Yarra River. Both properties

International Symposium on Electronic Art: ISEA2010 RUHR - call for submissions

ISEA2010 RUHR is the 16th International Symposium on Electronic Art, a major biennial conference
and exhibition event for art, media and technology. The symposium invites proposals for conference
papers, artist presentations, exhibition projects, live performances, and art projects in public space. All
submissions will be evaluated by an international jury and results and invitations are expected by the
end of 2009. Visual artists, musicians, dancers, designers, engineers, software artists, researchers,
theorists, media activists, and hybrids of these, working with recent technologies and exploring the
artistic, creative and critical potentials of digital and electronic media, should submit their projects or
