DEFENCE TECHNOLOGY PRIZE
INTRODUCTION

1. The Defence Technology Prize (DTP) aims to foster and encourage
technological innovation and excellence amongst scientists, engineers and technology
managers by giving recognition to outstanding technological contributions to
Singapore’s defence capability. The standards for the DTP are set at the level of
national awards in Science and Technology.

2. The DTP is awarded annually to individuals or teams who have made
significant technological contributions to the defence capability of Singapore. The
DTP consists of a Trophy and a Certificate. For Team Awards, members will each
receive a Certificate of Commendation.

AWARD CATEGORIES

3. There are two award categories to recognise the wide range and diverse nature
of contributions to Singapore’s defence technology capability. The categories are:

a. Defence Technology Prize Research and Development Award. The
DTP R&D Award is awarded to individuals/teams for distinguished
achievements in pioneering innovative R&D for Singapore’s defence.

b. Defence Technology Prize Engineering Award. The DTP
Engineering Award is awarded to individuals/teams for outstanding
contributions in the delivery of breakthrough engineering solutions and systems
integration work in MINDEF’s acquisition programmes.

4. The nomination should clearly indicate which category the individual or team
wishes to be considered for.

5. Nomination is open to individuals or teams who have made significant
technological contributions to the defence capability of Singapore. Teams may
comprise members from different organisations.

PROCEDURE FOR NOMINATION

6. Nominations must be made through prescribed nomination forms as shown in
Appendices A and B.

7. Nominations may be made by one of the following parties:

a. Direct supervisor of the nominee concerned, and supported by higher
management of the nominee’s organisation.

b. Customers/end-user organisations, and supported by higher
management in the nominee’s organisation.

8. Nominators for team category are advised to accurately reflect the
compositions of the teams in their nominations. Former team members who have
made significant contributions to the achievements could also be included in the
member list. Changes to nominations, including team compositions, are strictly
prohibited and will not be entertained after the nomination period closes.

9. The completed forms shall be returned to the following address, by mail, fax
or email.

10. Please label the form with the appropriate security classification if the
nomination form contains classified information. Please use the appropriate channel
to transmit any classified materials.

11. The nominations for DTP 09 will close on 4 June 09.
12. Judging will be carried out by a panel chaired by MINDEF’s Chief Defence
Scientist. The award winners will be announced after approval by the Minister for

Defence. All award winners are expected to give presentations at the DTP Award
Ceremony.
