The Science Before Science:

A Guide to Thinking in the 21st Century

by

Anthony Rizzi

Since Einstein first conceived general relativity, over 80 years ago, physicists have

sought a definition for angular momentum in general relativity. No satisfactory

definition of angular momentum had been given. In 1997, Dr. Rizzi discovered the first

such definition thereby gaining worldwide recognition for his work in theoretical physics.

That same year he was invited to present his findings at the international general

relativity physics conference held in Jerusalem, Israel. A layman’s magazine article on

Dr. Rizzi’s discovery appears in Science, October 1998, Vol. 282, No. 5387, pg 249.

He is uniquely established as both an outstanding theorist and experimentalist in

general relativity, specializing in LIGO (Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave

Observatory) related areas. As senior scientist at the California Institute of Technology’s

Louisiana LIGO observatory, he was responsible for significant developments in getting

the instrument ready for the detection of gravity waves. During this time, he taught

graduate physics courses at Louisiana State University. He continues his work to

increase our understanding of Einstein’s theory and of gravitational radiation. He has

also been a research scientist at Princeton University. Industry is also no stranger to Dr.

Rizzi. Earlier in his career, he was employed for ten years as a Staff Physicist and

Design Engineer for Martin Marietta (later Lockheed Martin) in Denver, Colorado. His

work included projects for the Manned Mars Craft and the Mars Observer and he

received the NASA Award, as well as, a Martin Marietta New Technology Award for his

design and build of the High Voltage (10KV) Fast (40ns) Switch.

In 1982, Dr. Rizzi received a BS in physics from the Massachusetts Institute of

Technology (MIT); later he received his MS from University of Colorado and a Ph.D. in

physics from Princeton University. His talents also include extensive computer

programming experience and a strong background in advanced mathematics.

Dr. Rizzi has used in his study of philosophy and theology the same rigorous, in-

depth questioning self-study style that he used throughout his physics career. Over the

past twenty years, he gained an extensive background in philosophy learning modern and

ancient philosophy. In his studies of philosophy, he concentrated on metaphysics, moral

philosophy and the philosophy of nature and science. In philosophy and theology,

history is almost indispensable and he studied that field extensively. In July 2001, Ralph

McInerny, renowned philosopher and author, invited Dr. Rizzi to speak at and participate

in the weeklong Thomistic Institute, University of Notre Dame. In October 2001, Dr.

Rizzi was awarded a grant to write The Science Before Science. He has been interviewed

on EWTN, FOCUS Worldwide Network, Zenit News Agency and various other print, radio

and cable programs. In 2003, he founded The Institute for Advanced Physics

(IAPweb.org) and is the fulltime Director. Dr. Rizzi is blessed with a lovely wife and

three lovely children.
