Poverty, Health and Environment:
Next steps to finalize the joint
agency paper
Kulsum Ahmed
On behalf of the core team from DANIDA,
DFID, LSHTM, WHO and World Bank
PEP Meeting, Washington DC
IADB, November 20, 2007
Process To-date
Draft circulated by core team and
discussed at Copenhagen PEP
meeting in June 2007
Additional comments received, as
well as agency requests to sign-off
on paper
Final draft incorporating comments
circulated on November 12, 2007
What’s different in this version?
Clarifying the audience as officials from finance or
planning departments at federal, state or
municipal levels
Making the link to development planning more
broadly rather than to only PRSPs
Restructuring chapters 3 and 4 so the former
refers to the process of preparing development
plans and the latter to building constituencies for
this agenda
Bringing in some discussion on climate change,
malnutrition, urban slums, etc. as it relates to
environmental-health
Emphasizing that the main aim is to raise the
profile of EH issues and the different tools that
this audience can use to achieve this.
