BIOLOGY AB SOUTH GATE HIGH SCHOOL

Course Syllabus

Welcome to Biology AB!

I am very excited to be your teacher, I know INSTRUCTOR: Mr. van der Fluit, A.K.A. – “Mr. V”

you will have a lot of fun in this class and you ROOM: 256

will learn some cool stuff. PHONE: 323-568-5600

E-MAIL: avanderf@lausd.net

That being said, you should understand that it WEBSITE: www.vanderfluit.com

is a very hard class to pass. There are a lot of

kids who don’t pass it the first time. I’ve been teaching for 10 years now, and I know what it takes to pass my

class:

1 – Be here. Don’t be absent.

2 – Do your work and turn it in on time. Instead of playing your XBOX or whatever, do your homework.

3 – Ask questions. If you don’t understand something I’m trying to teach you, let me know.

If you do these 3 things consistently (every day), I can guarantee that you will pass the class.

RULES

The RULES are meant to help you and your classmates work in an effective educational environment. 

1) Follow directions the first time they are given.

2) Be in your assigned seat when the tardy bell rings; if you’re not, then you’re TARDY.

3) Raise your hand for permission to speak.

4) Bring your materials everyday.

5) Be respectful.

CONSEQUENCES

The CONSEQUENCES are meant to show you that if you choose to break rules, bad things happen. 

1st time – Warning

2nd time – Stay After Class

3rd time – Change Seat

4th time – Time Out

Severe Disruption – Referral to the Dean

SELF-CONTROL

These policies are meant to help you practice self-control. 

 Cell Phones/Digital Media Players/Head Phones, etc. – If I see them, I take them. You can get them back after

school.

 Food/Drinks/Candy/Gum, etc. – If I see it, I take it and you’re cleaning the classroom after class.

 “Dirty” words – If I hear them, you’re cleaning the classroom after class.

REQUIRED MATERIALS

Bring these to class everyday; if you don’t, then you’ll have to borrow some… and that will cost you! 
