Men’s Softball Players:
Due to the increasing power of current bat specifications and the fact that players are
getting hurt and killed, ASA Softball has expanded their list of bats that are no longer
legal to use for ASA play. Forest Hill Softball adheres to the ASA guidelines, and adds a
few extras. See http://www.asasoftball.com/about/certified_equipment.asp for official ASA
policy.
Please make sure your bat is legal for our league. There are penalties for use of an illegal
bat, including an out for the first offense with all runs for that inning negated. The
second use of an illegal bat in a game will be a forfeit of all games played that day.
The biggest penalty is if someone gets hurt because of the desire to hit the ball a little
harder. That’s not what our league is about.
Please understand that we want to avoid injury due to these powerful bats. We get hurt
enough just running to first base.
The Amateur Softball Association of America (ASA) no longer displays every bat made
by bat manufacturers that do not comply with current ASA bat standards. If you want to
know what bats are approved for use in ASA Championship Play, follow one of the steps
below.
Check the approved list located here:
http://www.asasoftball.com/about/certified_equipment.asp
Check for either the 2000 or 2004 ASA Certification Mark and then be sure the bat is
not listed on list above as a banned bat by ASA.
No Mikens - (All Mikens are illegal at Forest Hill) And yes, we know that there are
Mikens legal for ASA, and that there are bats that are legal that are hotter than some
Mikens, but there are so many hot Mikens out there that we have outlawed them all.
Remember, this league isn’t about hitting the ball over people’s heads, it’s about having
fun playing softball with/against your friends (and some people that aren’t your friends).
