TEACHING WRITING
There are some basic consideration in preparing teaching writing. First, Process versus
product, in teaching product, teacher mostly concerned with the final product of writing the
essay, the report, the story, and what that product should “look” like. In making
composition, were supposed to; a) meet the certain standard of prescribed Englis rhetorical,
reflect acurate grammar, and c) be organized well and conventional.
But nowadays, besides teacher concern on product, it is also better to concern to the process
approach to writing instruction, as follows:
1. Focus in the process of writing that lead to the final written product:
2. Help student writers to understand their own composing process;
3. Help them to built repertories of strategies for prewriting, drafting, revising.
4. Give student time to write and rewrite;
5. Place centra importance on the process of revision;
6. Let student discover what they want to say as they write;
7. Give student feedback throughout to composing process (not just the final product) to
consider as they attempt to bring their expression closer and closer to intention;
8. Encourage feedback both from instructor and peers;
9. Include individual conferences between teacher and student during the process of
composition.
Second, the teacher considers the constructive rhetoric or the differences of the student
pattern in writing Englis based on their cultural backgroun. The last, how authentic are the
classroom writing exercise the teacher and student to preform, and why does the teacher
want the student to write in school.
Here are some techniques that usually uses in pratice:
1. Presentation
Presentation is the learning stage where the teacher gives the initial demonstration.
Relying on the student to come out in front of the class and assist in the demonstration
will only work it the teacher can tell them what to do simply and breifly. The teacher
uses visual aids that are real object rather than pictures in the stages, to avoid confusing
the students.
2. Practice
Practice is the learning stage where the student are give chance to make report based on
the picture that preserved by the teacher. The student must pratice only what they have
already practical. In this stages, the student are asked to do some activities that can be
improving their knowledge about something that they learn.
3. Production
Production is the active stages of learning. In this stage, the student are trying to convert
their thought of feeling in writing form using their own words. For the example, the
teacher shows a new picture then ask the student to make an opinion based on the
picture.
