             Title of the Research: Clinical Correlates for Street Children in Kurdistan


             FIRST STAGE
             September 2010 – December 2010
             Following formalities have to be achieved before starting the study:
             General & Specific Conditions:
             - Scientific Level: Higher school certificate of a total score 92.5 out of 100 from KAWA
             boys’ higher school, Dohuk 1992.
             - Bachelor: M.B.Ch.B. College of Medicine, Dohuk University 1998.
             - Master: High Diploma (2 years) in Child Mental Health, Department of Child Mental
             Health, Dohuk University 2005.
             - Related Experiences: 40 credits in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and
             Family therapy, Umeå University, Sweden, 2001.
              - Language: In addition to Kurdish and Arabic language, TOEFL test in English has to be
              passed with a degree of at least 473 at the time of admission (expected date August 2010) and
              500 when starting the research (to be reported later on).

             The student shall receive the employed salary during the study period according to the local
             rules (the exact amount has to be filled by the student in collaboration with the local co-
             supervisor). Additionally, the expenses of study and training in Sweden including travel costs
             twice a year, accommodation two months every time, supervision both in Kurdistan and in
             Sweden, expenses to participate in internal and external conferences and relevant materials
             shall be covered by the responsible authorities at the Kurdistan Regional Government (the
             estimated amounts and specifications are reported in the attached budget specification). The
             main supervisor has to sign a contract with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific
             Research in order to accomplish his duties.
             Besides, the costs for the local co-supervisor and the Collaborating Parts have to be added
             (the exact amount has to be filled by every collaborating part in collaboration with the local
             authorities).

             SECOND STAGE
             January 2011 – June 2011:

             The student shall meet his supervisors in average 10 hrs / week in Duhok and 20 hrs /week in
             Sweden to prepare the research plan and to prepare a review article on the subject for
             publication (First paper).
             The student shall receive weekly lectures in English concerning research methods and ethics
             in form of courses consisting of 12 – 20 lectures to be given together with other students. At
             the same time the student will work in research planning to make necessary training in
             English language, scientific writing and use of computer. After 6 months, the TOEFL test has
             to be repeated and a score of 527 has to be obtained before going to the next step.
             During the first three months, the student shall prepare a written report in English consisting
             of at least 2500 words giving a Literature Review on the subject. This report has to be
             evaluated by the two supervisors.
             At the end of 6 months, he student will deliver a more detailed report consisting of at least
             5000 words containing the results of the research activities during the last 6 months making
             the Material & Methods, Results, Discussion and Reference. This report has to be evaluated
             by an External Assessor in addition to the two supervisors. This External Assessor has to be
             identified by the Examination Committee at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Dohuk, in
             collaboration with the two supervisors. The External Assessor has to be unconnected to the
             research program.
             When the final evaluation is succeeded, the student will start the research. Otherwise, the
             course of the first 6 months has to be repeated for not more than two times.


             THIRD STAGE
             July 2011 – December 2011:
             The student will visit Sweden in two months for the second time to meet his main supervisor
             and to accomplish the following research courses: Introduction to Scientific Research (5
             weeks), to complete training in English presentations, and to complete the course of Scientific
             Writing (one week). If not succeeded, another two months shall be provided with full salary
             but the study expenses to be paid by the student himself. If still not succeeded in English, the
             student might study further two months on his own expenses.


             FOURTH STAGE
             January 2012 – August 2012:

             Research training in Sweden for another four months after passing the English evaluation will be
             paid by the Kurdistan Regional Government, can be achieved in two different periods. These periods
             might be extended for another year if the two supervisors agree. During the extension time, the KRG
             will pay salary, travel and accommodation but any study expenses are to be paid by the student.
             Further extension of staying in Sweden has to be agreed on by the Faculty Committee at the College
             of Medicine, University of Dohuk.
             After every 6 months, the student must deliver a report to his main supervisor and to be evaluated
             also by the co-supervisor and the External Assessor, containing at lest one paper for publication
             according to the research plan.
             During this stage, the local co-supervisor might visit the student in Sweden for at least two weeks in
             collaboration with the main supervisor.


             FIFTH STAGE
             September 2012 – August 2014:
             The student will continue conducting the research in Kurdistan and accomplishing the courses and
             lectures on special topics in pediatric psychosomatics, neurology, endocrinology and chronic
             diseases, family medicine and community-based education in psychosocial exposure, vulnerability
             and salutogenesis, psychological assessments and developmental psychology, in addition to relevant
             statistics, each at least two weeks full-time study in average to be provided by every collaborating
             part, respectively in collaboration with the chief supervisor and the local co-supervisor.
             In every 6-month period, the external chief supervisor shall visit the student in Kurdistan staying at
             least two months each time for supervision and collaboration with the pats involved.
             The student will spend most of the time during this period to prepare the thesis and to deliver 6-
             month reports continuously.
             The thesis is to be defended officially at the College of Medicine, Dohuk University against an
             opponent who is to be proposed by the chief supervisor and appointed by the Dohuk University.
