									                             2011-2012 Yellow Ribbon Program

With implementation of the new GI Bill changes beginning Fall 2011, in-state students, both
undergraduate and graduate, with 100% Chapter 33 benefit eligibility will have their in-state
tuition and fees paid in full by VA. Therefore, the Mason Yellow Ribbon Program beginning Fall
2011 will include only out-of-state undergraduate and graduate students (excludes Law
students). All out-of-state undergraduate and graduate students (excludes Law students) are
now eligible to apply for the Fall 2011 semester. The Yellow Ribbon Program application
deadline for the 2011-2012 academic year is the last day to add classes (Sep 6, 2011).

Mason Participation
For the 2011-2012 academic year, Mason will provide up to $1000 in Yellow Ribbon Program
contributions on a first come, first served basis to a maximum of 50 out-of-state
undergraduate and graduate students (excludes Law students). VA will match Mason
contributions.

Eligibility
Only out-of-state undergraduate and graduate students with 100% Post 9/11 GI Bill (Chapter
33) benefit eligibility may apply for the Yellow Ribbon Program. Included are dependents with
Transfer of Entitlement under Chapter 33. To be considered for the Yellow Ribbon Program, a
Certificate of Eligibility must first be on file in the Office of the University Registrar showing
Yellow Ribbon Program eligibility. VA has previously determined that active duty members and
spouses of active duty members with Transfer of Entitlement are not eligible.

Application Process
   1. Students meeting Mason Yellow Ribbon program criteria must submit to the Office of
       the University Registrar, if not already on file, a copy of their VA Certificate of Eligibility
       showing 100% Chapter 33 benefit eligibility and Yellow Ribbon Program eligibility by
       email to veterans@gmu.edu or by fax to 703-993-4668;
   2. Register for applicable classes in an approved program;
   3. Submit an online Veterans Registration Reporting Form (VRRF) with Chapter 33 Yellow
       Ribbon (YR Applicants Only) selected from the Chapter drop down box. Continuing out-
       of-state graduate students who were Yellow Ribbon for the 2010-2011 academic year
       do not apply again but can continue their Yellow Ribbon status by submitting their Fall
       2011 VRRF selecting Chapter 33 Yellow Ribbon (Continuing YR Students Only).

Details
Yellow Ribbon Program contributions are provided on a first come, first served basis as
determined by the date and time of the Fall semester VRRF Yellow Ribbon application
submission up to the maximum number of individuals for whom contributions will be made in
any given academic year. A VRRF cannot be accepted prior to registration and submission of the
Certificate of Eligibility. Mason will provide Yellow Ribbon contributions to continuing
participants during subsequent academic years in which Mason is participating in the Yellow
Ribbon Program as long as the student maintains satisfactory progress, conduct, and
attendance in their academic program.
