NEW RECYCLING INITIATIVES
WALTON HALL
In support of our quest to increase the recycling currently undertaken on site, the following new
initiatives are being rolled out over the next few weeks. All staff are encouraged to support these
opportunities, without which, success cannot be achieved.
1) Paper Recycling Currently, we have centralised ‘bins’ throughout departments for paper
recycling. In support of these, and in response to staff feedback, individual desk ‘trays’,
which can be kept on or beside your desk, will be distributed in which you can deposit all your
paper waste, emptying into the centralised bin at your convenience. If more bins are
required, please log your request with the Liaison Line (number below).
All paper waste, with the exception of paper hand towels and carbon paper can be recycled
ie we can take all brochures, books, envelopes etc. If in any doubt, again contact the Liaison
Line and we will come back to you to discuss your particular requirements.
2) Cans & Plastic Bottles Receptacles for these items will be installed in all catering outlets and
in vending areas in K Block, Wilson Building, Pavilion, Library and East Campus. ‘Crushers’
for the cans will be available next to them to ensure optimum usage.
3) Plastic Drinking Cups It has not been possible to find a contractor willing to take the current
clear plastic cups used at the water fountains. Therefore, we will be changing the cups to the
white plastic variety which will be collected by save-a-cup. To facilitate their collection, becca
bins will be installed at or near to water fountains and you are asked to pour any excess
water into the centre receptacle and deposit the cup, right way up, in the surrounding
apertures. These will be collected on a regular basis and recycled accordingly.
As a reminder, other recycling, already in place, is as follows:
1) Cardboard Should be flattened and left at your agreed rubbish point for collection at the
weekly visit
2) Redundant CDs Should be sent to Mara Cimetta, Estates
3) Wood & Metal Contact the Liaison Line to arrange for its collection
4) Glass Receptacles are available behind all catering outlets. While we would like to install
more, sufficient space for a lorry to back up, lift the bins and empty them is necessary and
the campus does not lend itself easily to this requirement. Alternatively, you may prefer to
take it home to recycle, please do not deposit any glass in general waste bins, the potential
for injury to others is very high.
Thank you, in anticipation, for your support of the above changes.
