              The University of Waikato’s Sport and Leisure Studies program has a distinct focus on the social sciences and the political,
              cultural, social, and economic factors influencing sport and leisure. The department puts a strong emphasis on qualitative
              research, particularly in the areas of sport psychology, management and leadership, sport history, youth sport and culture,
              adventure education and leadership, physical and health education curriculum, gerontology, dance, and sports media/
              journalism. They have research contracts with national and regional associations and are developing sport and recreation
