13 SUCCESSFUL 2010 SEASON AND FOR A TREMENDOUS
14 PERFORMANCE AT THE WINTER GUARD
15 INTERNATIONAL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN DAYTON,
16 OHIO.

18 Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased
19 to honor the members of the Summerville High School varsity
20 color guard for their tremendous success this season, including a
21 wonderful performance at the Winter Guard International World
22 Championships; and
23
24 Whereas, in a sport that requires rigorous discipline, precision, and
25 grace, the talented members of the Green Wave color guard of
26 Summerville High School have distinguished themselves in the
27 State, as well as nationally and internationally; and
28
29 Whereas, at the Winter Guard Championships one hundred sixty
30 teams from around the world competed for top honors in flag,
31 dance, rifle, and saber skills; and
32
33 Whereas, after winning their round in preliminaries and placing
34 third in their round in semifinals, the Summerville Color Guard
35 was a division finalist and a world championship finalist, finishing
36 with a ranking of eleventh in the World Championships.
37 Summerville is only the third school from South Carolina ever to
38 make the finals in the thirty-two years of the World
39 Championships; and

41 Whereas, at the World Championships, using movement training
42 and equipment skills on flags, the Summerville performers

1 achieved award-winning effects with color, body movement,
2 intricate drills, and patterns; and

4 Whereas, the 2010 Summerville Varsity Guard also is the 2010
5 Premiere South Champions, the 2010 Hanahan Champions, the
6 2010 WGI Atlanta Power Regional Silver Medalists, and the 2010
7 Carolina Winter Ensembles Association Gold Medalists; and
8
9 Whereas, using his own talent and leadership skills, Benjamin
10 Hipp, director of the color guard, molded the Green Wave program
11 and produced an outstanding squad this year through countless
12 hours of tireless practices and drills; and
13
14 Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased
15 to honor the Summerville High School color guard for an
16 exceptional season and expects to hear of future successes from
17 these fine young performers. Now, therefore,
18
19 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
20
21 That the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this
22 resolution, recognizes and commends the Summerville High
23 School Varsity Color Guard for a highly successful 2010 season
24 and for a tremendous performance at the Winter Guard
25 International World Championships in Dayton, Ohio.

27 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to
28 Color Guard Director Benjamin Hipp.
