Scott announced today that SHAWN JONATHON SHARP, 35, of Citrus Heights, pled guilty today to two felony counts of bank robbery before United States District Judge Frank C. Damrell, Jr. The case was investigated by the Sacramento Violent Crimes Task Force, which includes the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Roseville Police Department, and the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department. According to Assistant United States Attorney Michelle Rodriguez, who is prosecuting the case, SHARP committed three different robberies at the following locations: (1) Wells Fargo Bank, 9407 Madison Avenue, Orangevale, California, on October 17, 2007 for $853.00; (2) River City Bank, 3992 Douglas Blvd. #140, Roseville, California on October 24, 2007 for $1,989.00; and (3) Umpqua Bank, 1050 Pleasant Grove Boulevard, Roseville, California on November 2, 2007 for $1,711.00. Based on witness descriptions and a rapid law enforcement reaction, SHARP was arrested several hours after his successful getaway from the Umpqua Bank robbery. A concerned citizen witness observed the robber (SHARP) running from the Umpqua Bank toward a maroon colored Isuzu Sports Utility Vehicle parked in the Umpqua Bank's adjoining shopping center. The witness began to follow the vehicle and noticed that the license plate was covered to obscure the plate. At a traffic light near the Umpqua Bank, the witness observed the robber change out of his sweatshirt and exit the getaway vehicle to remove the license plate covering. The witness then noted the getaway vehicle's entire license plate. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Roseville Police Department thereafter determined that the getaway vehicle was loaned to SHARP's then girlfriend. Upon his arrest, SHARP was still wearing the same clothing he wore during the robbery and possessed the money taken from the bank. Although SHARP pled guilty to two counts of bank robbery (the River City Bank robbery and the Umpqua Bank robbery ), he admitted commission of all three bank robberies. SHARP also agreed to pay restitution for all bank robberies. SHARP is scheduled to be sentenced on February 19, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. before Judge Damrell. SHARP faces a maximum of 20 years in prison for each count of conviction and a three year term of federal supervised release. However, the actual sentence will be determined at the discretion of the court after consideration of the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account a number of variables, and any applicable statutory sentencing factors. ###
