DACHOWA MEMBRANE LAYING MANUAL
Our manual has been prepared taking practical experience to consideration gained in many years of
different groups of Polish roofers from distinct regions. It concerns the most important principles of
putting the first covering films (FWK) of high permeability.
Dachowa is designed for applying as a first covering layer of skew roofs (slope > 20 ), for all kinds of
roofing coatings on laths, and “contra-laths”, for which the air flow was anticipated along the “contra-
laths”. The most common used roofing in Poland are: roof tiles, profiled sheets (trapezoidal, roof-tiles
like), wavy slabs (fibre-cemented, bituminous), flat slabs, wooden shingles, etc. Because of its
optimum characteristic, may also be used as wind insulation in wooden and metal framework walls.
Dachowa successfully protects roof constructions with garrets or lofts. In both this cases Dachowa
installing procedures are the same. Owing to the UV effect, in case of using Dachowa at lighted up
lofts it is necessary to cover it (thermal insulation, or other film) against the light.
Dachowa film may be putted at boards sheathing, or directly on thermal-insulation, grey side
inside, and overprint outside.
Dachowa is first nailed by pins with “taker” – directly to rafters, next is tightened by “contra-
laths” (with laths along rafters), according to requirements, parallel, or perpendicular to eaves. In
perpendicular putting, the pleats ought to be glued with pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes (fig. 2).
Next strips are putted with pleat (fig. 1), marked with dashed line on top side of Dachowa film. Last
strip one puts on roof ridge with pleat of at least 15 cm size, in order to cover the roof ridge twice (fig.
At eaves, the Dachowa should be glued by pressure-sensitive adhesive tape (fig. 4), so, that
its edge lies on sheet over the gutter (fig. 5), or lies on gorge (fig. 6), under the gutter, and was
covered by fundamental roofing.
At sheathing (i.e. of boards), the Dachowa is the best to be installed in the pleat area.
At ventilators, breathers, and aerials etc., installations passage thru the sheathing places (fig.
7), one must cut out the star shape of Dachowa, and turn it up, glue, and seal around with pressure-
sensitive adhesive tape. One may also use special sealing clamping rings (i.e. self-locking).
Around chimneys (fig. 8), roof hatches, roof windows, etc., one should glue the Dachowa by
pressure-sensitive adhesive tape, so that, the turned up fragments of film, create the diagonal belt, of
5-15 cm heights. On the end one seals tightly all cracks, and incisions at the corners. One also may
glue around together these components with pressure-sensitive adhesive tape (fig. 9).
On roof hips (ridges) one ought to put the Dachowa on the overlap protruding beyond the
angle rafter. Similarly to the roof ridge, at the roof hip there should be two layers of Dachowa.
Along the valleys (fig. 10), before putting (alternatively after) the fundamental strips of
Dachowa, for tight combination, one must install its additional strip. After fixing the Dachowa at both
roof slopes combining themselves in the valley, one should stick this additional strip with a pressure-
sensitive adhesive tape to the fundamental layer.
Above skylights, chimes, roof windows, and roof hatches one may also make small gutters of
Dachowa (fig. 7). These gutters protect better from freezing: drips, rainfalls, of leaks.
For sticking Dachowa during putting it one should use pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes,
specially designed for this purpose.

Present manual gives the most important, and basic recommendations, but does not includes information
concerning all possible solutions used in roofs constructions. There are also situations, were other solutions than
described in this manual may be applied. For every membrane types there are manuals enclosed adapted to its
specific features differing between themselves.
