TITLE OF THE POST: National Research Officer
POST LEVEL: SB-3
DUTY STATION: Almaty - Kazakhstan
DURATION: Initially 6 months
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent reports to the CARICC project coordinator (Almaty – ROCA) and the
Afghan Opiate Programme manager (Vienna). S/he will be expected to work very
closely with other national research officers of the Afghan Opiate Trade programme
and the National Strategic Analysts of the Paris Pact project.
The main duties and responsibilities are to be as follows:
to assist in the implementation and monitoring of the Afghan Opiate Trade
Programme in the region;
to gather and analyze substantive and statistical information; to disseminate this
information into the relevant channels;
to produce analytical product as described in the Afghan Opiate Trade
Programme document and as from time to time amended;
to act as Afghan Opiate Trade Programme focal point in CARICC
to work very closely with CARICC liaison officers and other staff.
to help improve the data/information analytical capacity in the CARICC center
jointly with CARICC Liaison officers and the Afghan Opiate Trade Programme.
to prepare reports/presentations on drugs/crime as required by the CARICC
project coordinator and the Afghan Opiate Trade Programme.
to perform other duties upon request of the management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
University degree in statistics, analysis, international relations, the social sciences,
law or other relevant academic disciplines an advantage, but a mixture of practical
training and at least 3 years relevant professional experience may be substituted
instead. Knowledge of the region’s political, socio-economic and cultural dynamics
required. Good communication and problem solving skills. Good knowledge of
Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint) is required. Experience and
knowledge of database and geographical information systems is an asset.
Language : The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and
French. Excellent knowledge of English (oral and written) is required for this position.
The candidate should speak/write Russian at a fluent level.
CONTRACTUAL PROVISIONS
1. Full-time service contract;
2. Type of contract – Service Contract (SB-3) for 6 months with possible
extension;
3. Duration – August 2010 - January 2011;
4. Performance of the National Research Officer is subject to evaluation
