HOW TO USE RECYCLE BINS

									HOW TO USE RECYCLE BINS
CAUTION: BE EXTRA CAREFUL OF PINCH POINTS WHEN HANDLING RACKS.

Follow the instructions found on lids and bags for assembling recycle bins and
attaching bags. “Snap” the lids onto the racks to insure stability. A demonstration of
correct bin assembly will be provided at the time of pick-up.

To guarantee successful recycling, always place recycle bins next to trash cans.
Make sure NO CAN or BIN STANDS ALONE. After set-up, “bait” the bags with correct
material. Remember- cups are not recyclable.

Attach samples of what-goes-where in the “think zero waste” area on the left side of
each sign. This will give your guests much needed and appreciated visual cues. If
you want to make changes to the text on signs, DO NOT USES INK. Use easy-off blue
painter’s tape for temporary changes.

Visit each set of bins a few times during the event to remove contaminants - this is
called “top-sorting.” Change and replace bags only when full - bags are very
expensive and bins work best when ½ filled with good examples of correct material.

Blue recycle bins are labeled for plastic bottles, aluminum cans, tin cans and clean,
dry paper. Buckets are labeled for glass bottles and jars. Green bins are labeled for
compostable tableware, food-soiled paper (such as napkins) and food scraps
(except meat and dairy). Trash cans are not provided.

Note: Compostable forks, knives and spoon can only be successfully composted
under controlled conditions. Home composting of these items is not generally
recommended.
