Construction
Osnaburg has a fairly loose weave and tends to fray. I have used a ” seam allowance throughout
the construction of the Santa Sack.
1. Sew the 5” x 15” rectangle of Georgia Lou to the embroidered Snowman rectangle of Osnaburg,
which has been trimmed to 10 ” x 15”. Press as shown in Diagram A.

                                                Diagram A

2. Sew the 4 ” x 15” rectangle of Georgia Lou to the embroidered Santa Sack rectangle of Osnaburg,
which has been trimmed to 6 ” x 15”. Press as shown in Diagram B.

                                               Diagram B

3. Sew the two sections together, as per Diagram C. Press, as shown.

                                               Diagram C
Optional
Before going on to step 4, if desired you might want to applique a few hearts to the back rectangle of
the sack, as shown in the photo. The heart template is included.

                                                                                                         3
4. With right sides together, sew the front of the sack to the 24 ” x 15” rectangle of Osnaburg. sewing each of
the side seams and the bottom seam. Because the Osnaburg tends to fray you might want to finish the seam
allowances with a zigzag or overcast stitch. Turn and press.

5. Repeat with the 2 rectangles of Georgia Lou for the lining.

6. Insert the Georgia Lou lining inside the Osnaburg, wrong sides together. Baste the top edge
together.

7. Turn over ¼” towards the outside (right side) of the sack. Press.

8. Turn over another 1¾” ,to form the casing. Press. Before stitching the casing, open up the casing,
and make 2- ” buttonholes, 1 on each side of the sack, as shown in Diagram D.

                                               Diagram D

9. After the buttonholes are made, turn over the casing and press. Stitch all around the sack, ¼” from
the top of the sack, and again ¼” from the bottom edge, to form the casing, as shown in Diagram E.

                                               Diagram E

10. Thread 1 – 48” length of Rattail Cording through the casing, inserting and exiting from the same
buttonhole. Repeat with the second length of cording, through the other buttonhole. Insert the ends
of the cording through the bead and tie a knot in the cording., as shown in Diagram F.

Enjoy!
