							Windows 2000 Installation using Compaq Utilities


Smart Start
   1. Boot the computer using the Smart Start CD




   2. Provided System Erase has been run on the machine, the screen will prompt
       for a Language. Otherwise Run the system erase, and reboot the computer.
   3. Select Country, Keyboard, date and time
   4. Choose I agree to the License Aggreement
   5. You are presented with Three options for installation
          a. Manual
          b. Assisted
          c. Replicated

       Choose Assisted
   6. Insert the Server profile disk when prompted and select next
   7. The wizard now prompts for a choice of operating system. Be sure to pick the
       correct version and type, eg Select (No serial number required) or Non-select
       (Serial number required)
   8. System configuration wizard now starts, check boot order of devices before
       continuing
   9. System Configuration Partition is created on disk
   10. Array configuration utility is used to configure the disks.
   11. Files are now copied to system partition and Temp swap file is created with
       smart start files decompressed into it.
   12. Hardware discovery performed
   13. Wizard now prompts for installation software locations, choose CD only
   14. Do not select yes for replicated profile of this installation
15. Automatic server recovery config now starts, select next through the screen
   and change options are required. If you have no information on these choices,
   select next as these can be changed at a later date from within Windows
16. Enter 4095 as boot partition size
17. Choose Licensing mode, PER Seat, normally
18. Enter CD Key if required
19. Files are now copied to the system partition and the profile disk. Choose
   continue to create disk partitions
20. Gui now restarts and copies file to partition.
21. Smart Start now requests access to media specified in point 7


Windows 2000 Setup Phase


22. Set up will skips initial phases due to information provided in the Smart start
   phases. Installation files are copied to server and the wizard asks for CD to be
   removed and server rebooted
23. Gui portion of W2K setup starts




24. Device install wizard begins, and installs the required drivers.
25. Customise the system locale to the correct language and keyboard. Also
   setting the UK/Irish settings as default
26. Enter Name and Organisation, Usually same for both




27. Enter local administrator password, usually blank or password




28. Set date and time zone.
29. Specify custom settings for networking components.




30. Servers should not be using DHCP (Obtain in IP address automatically)
   therefore give EACH card a dummy IP address. This is to assist in teaming
   network cards.


31. Choose NO, this computer is not on a network or domain. (Due to previous
   screen you would not be able to contact Domain controller anyway)
32. System then goes and installs everything according to your choices.
33. Choose finish and the system will restart.
34. Log on as administrator
35. Select I will configure this server later, click next and unselect “Show this
   screen at startup”
36. Go to Start/Programs/Administrative Tools/ Computer Management/Disk
   Management and create require Logical drives.
   Format them to the following settings
   File system, NTFS
   Block size, 4096
   Volume Label
   Quick Format




37. Double click Compaq Teaming utility. Team cards are required and make sure
   network speed is set to correct speed for Switch. Auto/Auto IS NOT
   ACCEPTABLE (Compaq say so!!)
38. Give Teams meaningful names
39. Go to Start/Settings/Network and dialup connections, select properties of
   Local Area Network Connections
40. Enter IP addresses for the teams.




41. Select properties of my computer and select Network Identification.
42. Select Domain Radio button and type required Domain Name
43. Enter Domain Administrator account and password.
44. Clear the event logs and reboot computer.
45. Apply relevant Service pack. Do not apply Service Pack 3 unless given
   explicit instructions to do so.
