            One night a man had a dream.
     He dreamed he was walking along a beach
     with the Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes
    from his life. For each scene, he noticed two
     sets of footprints in the sand; one belonged I’d like the memory of me
          to him, and the other to the LORD. to be a happy one.

    When the last scene of his life flashed before
                                                               I’d like to leave an after

       path of his life there was only one set of life is done.

      very lowest and saddest times in his life. I’d like to leave an echo,
                                                                   whispering softly
   This really bothered him and he questioned down the ways.
    the Lord about it. “Lord, you said that once
   I decided to follow you, you’d walk with me Of happy times and

   The Lord replied, “My precious, precious child, who grieve,
      I love you and I would never leave you. to dry before the sun.
      During your times of trial and suffering,
      when you see only one set of footprints, Of happy memories that I
           it was then that I carried you.”
                                                              leave when life is done.

      When I am gone, release me, let me go,               I am home in heaven, dear ones;
                                                              Oh, so happy and so bright!
        I have so many things to see and do, There is perfect joy and beauty
                                                               In this everlasting light.
       You mustn’t tie yourself to me in tears,
                                                             All the pain and grief is over,
        Be happy that we had so many years.                 Every restless tossing passed;
                                                              I am now at peace forever,
     I gave to you my love, you can only guess, Safely home in heaven at last.
      How much you gave to me in happiness. Did you wonder how I so calmly
   I thank you for the love you each have shown, Trod the valley of the shade?
                                                            Oh, but Jesus’ love illumined
        But now it’s time I travelled on alone. Every dark and fearful glade.

     So grieve awhile for me if grieve you must, And he came himself to meet me,
                                                             In that way so hard to tread;
      Then let your grief be comforted by trust, And with Jesus’ arm to lean on,
                                                           Could I have one doubt or dread?
       It’s only for a while that we must part,
                                                          Then you must not grieve so sorely,
      So bless the memories within your heart. For I love you dearly still:
                                                          Try to look beyond earth’s shadows,
         I won’t be far away, for life goes on, Pray to trust our Father’s Will.
       So if you need me, call and I will come,
                                                           There is work still waiting for you,
   Though you can’t see or touch me, I’ll be near;            So you must not idly stand;
                                                             Do it now, while life remains,
          And if you listen with your heart, You shall rest in Jesus’ land.
  You’ll hear all my love around you, soft and clear. When that work is all completed,
                                                            He will gently call you home;
   And then when you must come this way alone, Oh, the rapture of that meeting,
                                                            Oh, the joy to see you come!

     A light is from our household gone, We lost a father with a heart of gold,
          A voice we loved is stilled, How much we miss him can never be told,
       A place is vacant in our home, He shared our troubles and helped us along,
           That never can be filled. If we follow his footsteps we will never go wrong.

       Lonely is the home without you,
           Life to us is not the same, We miss you from your fireside chair,
     All the world would be like heaven, Your loving smile and gentle air,
      If we could have you back again. Your vacant place no one can fill,
                                                          We miss you father and always will.
     The happy hours we once enjoyed,
       How sweet their memory still,
      But death has left a vacant place, He was a father so very rare,
          This world can never fill. Content in his home and always there,
                                                        On earth he toiled, in Heaven he rests,
         How dearly we loved you, God bless you father, you were one of the best.
         And prayed you might live,
         But Jesus just beckoned,
           And we had to give. Each time we look at your picture,
                                                              You seem to smile and say,
       God gave us strength to bear it,
                                                            Don’t be sad but courage take,
        And courage to fight the blow,
       What it has meant to lose you, And love each other for my sake.
         God alone will ever know.

      May the God of love and mercy, O Sweet Jesus, for the sake of Thy Bitter Passion
     Care for our loved one who is gone, and the sorrows of Thy Immaculate Mother
        And bless with consolation, have mercy on his soul, and let the light
            Those left to carry on. of Thy countenance shine upon him. Amen.

      Gone from our home his smiling face,
            His cheerful happy ways,
       The heart that won so many friends,
             In bygone happy days!
                                                     Death is nothing at all. I have only
     Good was his heart, in friendship sound slipped away into the next room.
       Loved and respected by all around,

         A beautiful life came to an end,
      He died as he lived, everyone’s friend. are still. Call me by my old familiar
                                                     name, speak to me in the easy way which
     Did you wonder why I worked so hard, you always used. Laugh as we always
              To organise was fun. laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed
          But with Jesus as my leader, together. Play, smile, think of me, pray
           He said your work is done.
                                                     for me. Let my name be the household
       And He came Himself to meet me, word that it always was. Let it be spoken
         In that way so hard to tread. without effort. Life means all that it ever
        And with Jesus’ arm to lean on,              meant. It is the same as it ever was;
         Could I have doubt or dread. there is absolutely unbroken continuity.
                                                     Why should I be out of your mind
       Then you must not grieve so sorely,
             For I love you dearly still. because I am out of your sight? I am
       Try to look beyond earth’s shadows, but waiting for you, for an interval,
          Pray to trust our Father’s will. somewhere very near just around the
                                                     corner. All is well. Nothing is past;
     We shall meet again in a brighter land
                                                     nothing is lost. One brief moment and all
        Where farewell is never spoken.
     We shall clasp each other hand in hand, will be as it was before - only better,
       And the clasp shall not be broken. infinitely happier and for ever - we will
                                                     all be one together with Christ.

         Along the road to yesterday
         That leads me straight to you
         Are memories of happy days
          Together we once knew.

        A silent grief that’s in our hearts
            No human eye can trace
        For many a broken heart is hid
             beneath a smiling face.

      A bouquet of beautiful memories Sacred Heart of Jesus
        Sprayed with a million tears have mercy on the soul of
     Wishing God could have spared you

              IRISH BLESSING You suffered much in silence,

                                                     Your spirit did not bend,
       May the road rise up to You bore your cross with dignity,
       meet you, may the wind
                                                        Until the very end,
       always be at your back.
                                                 As we sat beside your bedside,
       May the sun shine warm
                                                  And watched you fade away,
       upon your face, and rains
        fall soft upon your fields. Our hearts were full of sadness,

       And until we meet again, We could not ease your pain.

        may God hold you in Silent thoughts of times together,

       the palm of His hand. Bring memories that will last forever.

                                                 A little flower, just lent, not given,
    We think of you with love today, To bud on earth and bloom in heaven.

        But that is nothing new,

   We thought about you yesterday,

      And the day before that too!

                                                   No last farewells were spoken,
      Is the day we’ll be with you. You never said goodbye,

                                                 They say there is a reason,
   Our hearts still ache with sadness,

       Your place no one can fill, But neither time or reason,
                                                 Will change the way we feel,
       In life we loved you dearly,
                                               For no one knows the heartache,
        In death we love you still, That lies behind our smiles,

                                               We have broken down and cried;

                                                We want to tell you something,

        Or take away a memory, So there won’t be any doubt,
                                                You’re so wonderful to think of,
        Of one we loved so dear.

                THE OLD MAN
     The tears have all been shed now What is Dying?
      We've said our last goodbyes,
          His soul's been blessed The ship sails and I stand
              He's laid to rest,
         And it's now I feel alone.
                                                      watching till she fades on the
      He was more than just a father horizon and someone at my
        A teacher, my best friend;
           He can still be heard side says, “She is gone.”
          In the tunes we shared
       When I play them on my own.
                                                    Gone where? Gone from my
         I thought he'd live forever
                                                       sight, that is all; she is just as
        He seemed so big and strong large as when I saw her.
             But the minutes fly,
            And the years roll by The diminished size and total
           For a father and a son.
      And suddenly when it happened -
                                                         loss of sight is in me, not in
       There was so much left unsaid; her and just at the moment
             No second chance
             To tell him 'thanks' when someone at my side says,
         For everything he'd done.
                                                     “She is gone”, there are others
           I never will forget him
        For he made me what I am who are watching her coming and
         Though he may be gone
            Memories linger on -
                                                    other voices take up a glad shout,
        And I miss him, the old man. “There she comes!”, and that is dying.

               GOD’S GARDEN
                                                           WHEN I MUST LEAVE YOU
       God looked around his garden,
          And found an empty place,
     He then looked down upon the earth,
           And saw your tired face. When I must leave you for a little while,

        He put his arms around you, Please do not grieve and shed wild tears,
            And lifted you to rest,
                                                And hug your sorrow to you through the years,
       God’s garden must be beautiful,
         He always takes the best.                 But start out bravely with a gallant smile;
         God knew you were so tired, And for my sake and in my name,
          And a cure was not to be,
       So he closed your weary eyelids, Live on and do all things the same,
         And whispered come to me. Feed not your loneliness on empty days,
      With tearful eyes we watched you,
                                                   But fill each waking hour in useful ways,
           And saw you slip away,
       Although we loved you dearly, Reach out your hand in comfort and in cheer,
        We knew you could not stay.
                                                   And I will comfort you and hold you near;
        It broke our hearts to lose you,
                                                      And never, never be afraid to die,
            But you did not go alone,
          For part of us went with you, For I am waiting for you in the sky!
        The day God called you home.

             DON’T GRIEVE FOR ME I AM NOT THERE

        Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free
                                                     Do not stand at my grave and weep.
      I'm following the path God laid for me.
      I took His hand when I heard him call; I am not there. I do not sleep.
            I turned my back and left it all.
             I could not stay another day, I am a thousand winds that blow.
          To laugh, to love, to work or play.
      Tasks left undone must stay that way; I am the diamond glints on snow.
       I found that place at the close of day.
                                                      I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
              If my parting has left a void,
           Then fill it with remembered joy. I am the gentle autumn rain.
        A friendship shared a laugh, a kiss;
        Ah yes, these things, I too will miss. When you awaken in the morning's hush

     Be not burdened with times of sorrow I am the swift uplifting rush
      I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
       My life's been full, I savoured much; of quiet birds in circled flight.
  Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch.
      Perhaps my time seems all too brief; I am the soft stars that shine at night.
     Don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Do not stand at my grave and cry.
      Lift up your heart and share with me,
     God wanted me now, He set me free. I am not there; I did not die.

                    YOU CAN ...                                    MY ROSARY

       You can shed tears that he is gone What comfort just to clasp it,
     or you can smile because he has lived.                 My Rosary so dear;
                                                      Each Mystery brings fresh courage,
       You can close your eyes and pray And drives away all fears.
        that he'll come back or you can
      open your eyes and see all he's left. In prayer so oft repeated,
                                                             Yet never growing old,
       Your heart can be empty because I read the wondrous story,
         you can't see him or you can Of God’s own love unfold.
         be full of the love you shared.
                                                        Each chaplet forms a garland,
                                                            To place at Mary’s feet;
      You can turn your back on tomorrow
                                                        Fair buds and full-bloom roses,
     and live yesterday or you can be happy
                                                          Exhaling fragrance sweet.
      for tomorrow because of yesterday.
                                                         The Crucifix which crowns it,
        You can remember him and only Reminds me day by day,
        that he's gone or you can cherish To bravely bear my crosses
          his memory and let it live on. Along earth’s rugged way.

       You can cry and close your mind, I hope when life is ended,
          be empty and turn your back And earth shall set me free,
         or you can do what he'd want: Still twined around my fingers
     smile, open your eyes, love and go on. Will be my Rosary.
