Stool Softeners
There are two types of stool softeners. One type is a substance that draws water back into the
stool, making it softer and easier to pass. Some of the products are Colace, Miralax, and Pedia-
Lax Liquid.
The other type is a lubricant laxative which is a mineral oil. It coats the bowel with a waterproof
film that keeps water in the stool. The additional fluid in stool helps it slide through the intestine.
Some mineral oil products are Lansoyl and Kondremul.

Docusate is a stool softener. It works by increasing the amount of water the stool absorbs in the
gut, making the stool softer and easier to pass.
Its generic name is docusate. Docusate is used to treat constipation, and to reduce pain or rectal
damage caused by hard stools or by straining during bowel movements.

Lansoyl Laxative Jelly
Indication: Relief of occasional constipation.
Dosage: Children under 6 years: consult a physician. Children (6 to 12
years): 5 to 15 mL (1 to 3 teaspoonfuls) daily. Children (12 years and older)
and adults: 15 to 45 mL (1 to 3 tablespoonfuls) daily. The administration of
a single dose at night upon retiring is usually recommended.
Warning: Do not use in case of nausea, vomiting, fever or abdominal pain.
Do not use for more than a week except upon a physician’s advice. Do not
take within two hours of another medication because the desired effect of
the other medication may be reduced.
Overuse or extended use may cause dependence for bowel function.
Lansyl jelly has a pleasant taste that will be enhanced if stored in the
refrigerator. The jelly produces results in 6 to 8 hours.
Medicinal ingredient: 78% Mineral oil, Non-medicinal ingredients: Citric acid,
gelatin, mixture of natural and artificial aromas, red cochenille A, sugar

Kondremul product details
Promotes gentle, predictable regularity of normal bowel movement.

Miralax is a polyethylene glycol powder which dissolves in water. This material is not absorbed
