Instructions for Publishing to Project Sites from MS FrontPage
All class project sites are located on a KSG Unix server. This is to allow groups to take advantage of
the built-in FrontPage tools that make it easy to handle forms and discussion pages. Unfortunately,
the KSG IT department will not provide Unix accounts for individual students or student groups.
Therefore, all files must be uploaded using MS FrontPage. You cannot FTP your files to the
designated server.
This page provides instructions for uploading/publishing files using MS FrontPage.
FrontPage is available on all computers in the KSG computer lab. If you do not have any KSG
students in your group, please let me know immediately and I will arrange to get your group access
to the lab computers. If you have MS FrontPage at home, you can also upload/publish from home.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Create your site using MS FrontPage or any other editor you prefer. [Note: If you use another
web editor, make sure you give yourself time to make any adjustments in FrontPage. Like all
Microsoft products, FrontPage has a habit of doing weird things with documents produced in
other programs.
2. Open your site using MS FrontPage (FrontPage Explorer for those using FrontPage 98 rather
than 2000).
3. When you are ready to publish/upload, click the “Publish” Button (also found under File
Publish FrontPage Web).
4. You will now have a “Publish” box on the screen. Click the “More Webs” button.
5. You will now be asked to specify a location to which to publish. Delete what is in the box and
type http://www.ksg.harvard.edu/project# where # equals your assigned group number (see
attached for list of group numbers). Click OK.
6. You are now back to the “Publish” box, but your location has changed. Click OK.
7. You will now be prompted for your Name and Password. Your Name is “class” and your
password is “stp307”. Click OK.
8. FrontPage will then proceed to publish your site. When FrontPage is finished you can check
your site through any web browser at www.ksg.harvard.edu/project# where # equals your
assigned group number. If you are updating your site, be sure to hit your browser’s
refresh/reload button in order to see your changes.
