Future RDS Reason Codes
Reason Codes are identification numbers that correspond to a specific message about a record in a response file or a
notification file. In working to assist Plan Sponsors and Vendors, CMS’ RDS Center will be adding additional Reason
Codes to provide more information in retiree processing. These Reason Codes will be implemented in the future, and the
Plan Sponsor and Vendor community will be notified prior to these changes taking effect. Plan Sponsors and Vendors
should plan ahead for the implementation of these Reason Codes in order to properly prepare for these future changes.
