Swing Dance Classes: Q & A
Below are a few questions and answers that will help give you a better understanding of the Swing
Dance Classes at The LECOM Medical Fitness & Wellness Center. As always, we appreciate your
Q: How many people can register for the classes?
A: There is a maximum limit of 30 participants for the session and a minimum of 20. A waiting
list will be created when 30 are exceeded, and below minimum will result in cancellation of
Q: Do I need to have a partner?
A: No. Singles and couples are welcome to sign up.
Q: What is the class format?
A: The class format is a level 2 continuation of the previous Beginner Swing Dance Classes in
September. It will include an intermediate technique that will give distinct flavor and feel as
well as the ability to combine different figures so as to move fluidly around the dance floor.
Q: What if I have to miss a class?
A: Each week, there will be a brief review of the previous week’s work just prior to the new layer
of the routine.
Q: What should I wear?
A: Whatever you feel most comfortable in provided it is in good taste. Some suggestions
include light, breathable, workout style apparel, and supportive, comfortable shoes. The
recommended shoe will be one that provides both comfort as well as ability to do turns and/or
spins. Rubber soled shoes aren’t always best for such activity. Shoes with suede or leather
bottoms are usually best. Shoes should have non-marking soles on them.
Q: If I can only take certain weeks, can I prorate the fee?
A: The total fee is due in advance to reserve your space and covers the full 6-week course and
the payment will not be prorated in the event you have to miss a class.
Q: Where will the class take place?
A: The Aerobics Studio on the 1st floor of the Center.
Q: Who is the instructor?
A: Connie Lauffer Shoop will be the instructor. Connie is the Owner and instructor of Connie’s
Ballroom Dance. She and her husband Lou Baxter are featured on the cover of Erie
LifeStyles Magazine’s February 2010 issue. She has been dancing since the age of 3 and
has been a ballroom dance instructor in Erie and Meadville for the past 15 years.
