							The Peritoneal Vac Study
How do I enrol a patient
     in this study?
    PI: Andrew Kirkpatrick
       RC: Corina Tiruta
1. Decide if an open abdomen is the indicated therapy
   for your patient. If so, continue to step 2; If not, do
   not enrol this patient into this study.
   Exclude: patients under 18 years old, pregnancies, patients undergoing
   intraperitoneal chemotherapy

1. Go to www.peritonealvac.com
2. Select “Randomization” hot-key (top right corner)
3. Enter the super-simple Username and Password (if
   forget can page Andy #02603, 24/7)
4. Enter patient RHRN + last name to randomize
5. You’ll be indicated the patient number you have
   randomized. Use the corresponding bag (located in
   the AbThera dressing tote, in the Peritoneal Vac
   Study box) for blood & peritoneal fluid collection.
    e.g.: for randomized pt.1 use the kit labelled with pt.id 001-1
7. Collect PERITONEAL FLUID:
- If Mon. to Fri., 8am to 4pm: fill-up one 50ml blue
   cap tube and one 4ml green cap tube labelled “PF”
   with peritoneal fluid, and page Caroline Leger at
   07559 to collect the 50 ml tube.
- If after hours: fill-up one 4ml green cap tube
   labelled “PF” with peritoneal fluid; discard the 50ml
   tube.
8. Collect BLOOD If Mon. to Fri.8am to 4pm or after
   hours:
- 2 Green Cap (4ml) tubes for plasma isolation
   (labeled with a “P”)
- 2 Red Cap (4ml) tubes for serum isolation (labeled
   with a “S”)
   fill up the tubes to 4ml and keep them on the rack provided in an upright
   position
       * blood will be drawn by anaesthesia team
9. Fill-out the pt. gender & DOB, collection date&time
   on the Research Requisition
10. Send the five (4ml) tubes, the rest of the bag
    (containing 3 empty blue cap 15ml tubes for CLS
    use only) and the Research Requisition to CLS by
    porter
11. Place the type of Temporary Abdominal Dressing
    indicated by randomization
   - for further information on actually dressing placement
   refer to Regional Trauma Services Guidelines for the
   Mgmt.of the Open Abdomen (internal website under Trauma
   Services/Adult Trauma Care/Policies,Protocols and Practice Guidelines)
   or page Andy #02603 24/7
               Monday to Friday
               8am to 4pm:

                                   Call a porter to have the 5 tubes (green and red cap) +
                                  the research requisition and the study bag containing 3
                                         unfilled 15ml transfer tubes delivered to CLS
       Monday to Friday after 4pm,
       week-ends and holidays
