From the President…
I have to admit that I am kind of a fair-weather Vette driver. Honestly, it's more like "perfect weather" Vette
driver. If there is zero chance of precipitation in the Midwest for the next 3 days, I might take the Vette to
work one day instead of the minivan. But, only if I think I can get there early enough so that the "good"
parking spot at work is open, you know the one on the end where no one can door-ding me and there are no
trees directly above for birds to take aim at me from.

I recently got back from skiing in Colorado and while driving down the mountains towards Denver my friend
& I encountered nearly every weather condition save for actual hail. Rain, snow, ice & fog were making
things pretty tough for us, even in the little SUV we rented. The road was both icy, wet and mostly covered
in snow. I glanced across at the cars heading UP the mountain (who were having even more trouble than we
were) when I saw something I thought I would never see, a Corvette. Yes, someone had their Vette out on a
really cold and crappy day and was actually trying to drive up a mountain with it! Was it a brand new
(probably leased) C6? How 'bout an early C4 at the bottom of the depreciation curve? Neither. It was a
very nice ‘64 convertible (white with a black top)!

My first thought was, of course, that the car was stolen. Not seeing any law enforcement in pursuit, my mind
moved on to the next possibility. Someone actually drives their classic Vette without concern for barometric
pressure, their personal safety or the desire to actually reach their destination. Hmmmm. Provocative. Later
on in the same trip, near Grand Island NE, I saw 4 tail lights in the traffic ahead. It was a beautiful red 69
roadster with the hardtop installed on the car. (I didn't know you could actually DO that!) He was keeping
up with traffic at a steady pace of about 80 mph and not while on a trailer. He was driving the car. He had
Wisconsin plates, so he was a ways from home.

Seeing not one, but two classic Vettes out in the elements like that must be some sort of sign. Maybe I'll go
out in the garage and throw another coat of wax on the ‘65... just in case.

Tim

Minutes of General Meeting March 20, 2007

The March general meeting was held at the Tavern II in West Des Moines. President Tim
Ford was ill and Vice-President Paul Wyman was out of town. Governor Dennis Luther presided
over the meeting.

Governor - Dennis Luther gave the members an informational presentation on the proposed
event at the Iowa Speedway. Information for this presentation was the result of several planning
meetings by the committee formed at the February general meeting. After several questions and a
lengthy discussion, the club voted to approve the $1,000.00 expenditure for the deposit and to sign
the contract with the Speedway. A new committee was then formed for the planning of the event.
The event at Chariton is coming up quick and a planning meeting is set for the end of April. All
members are invited to attend. See the flyer in the Sportsmate for details.

Treasurer - Darren Brown gave the treasurers report. A motion to approve as printed in the
newsletter made by Bob Peterson, 2nd by Dick Mathern.

Member at Large - Rocky DiMaio had nothing to report. 50/50 was won by Arda Mathern.

Motion to adjourn made by Brad Helgemo and 2nd by Dave Howard.

                      Respectfully,
                      Mike Quine – Secretary

Minutes of Board Meeting April 3, 2007
The April board meeting was hosted by Dennis Luther. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 by
President Tim Ford.

Vice-President - Paul Wyman reported on planned upcoming socials. The social calendar is
quickly filling up. Watch the newsletter for flyers on monthly socials. If interested in putting
together a social, let Paul know.

Treasurer - Darren Brown gave the monthly treasury report. Report is published in the
Sportsmate. Darren reported that he had received membership applications from several new
members. Les and Jeannine Rousseau with a 2000 red hardtop and Toby Howell with a 1995 blue
coupe.

Governor - Dennis Luther informed the board the contract for Iowa Speedway has been
signed and the deposit has been made. The contract was also reviewed by attorney Mark Crittelli
and was approved. The planning meeting for Chariton is scheduled for the end of April. A flyer
will be in this months Sportsmate. We still need volunteers to help out in many areas. If you are
interested in helping out, contact Denny. West Region Banquet was attended by 14 members. CCI
members brought home several awards.

Member at Large - Rocky DiMaio had nothing to report but a discussion was had on
attention to new members and a new procedure for signing in at meetings. A check in table will be
set up and manned by the member at large at all meetings. This is where everyone will sign in on
the waiver, receive name tags and purchase 50/50 tickets. This will also help us to identify new
members and set them up with a sponsor to help make them feel more comfortable.

Newsletter Editor - Dave Howard is looking for tech articles, Corvette related news or other
topics of interest for newsletter material.

Secretary - Mike Quine is still looking for help on the club history project. Several boxes of
photos have been uncovered and need to be consolidated. Dick Mathern has volunteered to help in
identifying people, approximate dates and locations. We will then need to figure out a place to store
all club history photos and info. Some photos will appear in the Sportsmate throughout the year.

Webmaster - Wayne Wiedmann nothing to report.

                      Respectfully,
                      Mike Quine – Secretary

                                    April 20th, 21st & 22nd
CCO wishes to invite you to Oklahoma Thunder 2007, April 20TH, 21st & 22nd, 2007. We will be racing at
Hallett Motor Racing Circuit and Tulsa Raceway Park, site of the 1985 NCCC National Convention.

The Southwest Region has been selected to host the 2008 NCCC National Convention at the same
locations. This could be your chance to get in some valuable track time prior to the convention.

At Hallett, we will be hosting a Play Day and High Speed Driving School, running lapping sessions on
Friday, which is always sponsored by Credit World Auto Sales. On Saturday, we will be running two High
Speed and one Low Speed event at Hallett. Gates open at 6:30 on both days, with drivers meeting at 8:30.
Sunday, there will be two E.T. Drags and one Record Drag event at Tulsa Raceway Park. Gates will open
at 8:00 with time trials starting as soon as track conditions permit. Time trial will end at 10:15 with the
beginning of the drivers meeting for the racing events.

T Shirts will be available for purchase at the various event locations.

The Driving School is new for this year. We will offer classroom instruction as well as several lapping
sessions with one-on-one instruction with some of the Southwest Region’s best teachers & drivers. When
you successfully complete the school you will receive your High Speed Certification. If you’re already
certified, and would like to attend the school, that will also be available.

Hallett Motor Racing Circuit is a 1.8, 10-turn Road Racing course, with varying grade elevation changes,
located 35 miles west of Tulsa, Oklahoma, on the Cimarron Turnpike.

Tulsa Raceway Park is an IRHA approved drag strip that since 2003 has undergone total renovation
including complete renovation of the strip and construction of a new 3000 sq.ft. Timing tower. It is located
at 3101 N. Garnett Rd. in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The host hotel will be the Baymont Inn located at 4530 E. Skelly Dr. in Tulsa. The Hotel is located at the
SW Corner of I-44 and Yale Ave behind Don Pablo’s and Celebration Station. The phone number is 918-
488-8777. Tell them you are with the "Corvette Club" for your special rate of $48.00 per night.

Due to trying to keep event costs down, the only awards that will be presented for the weekend will be the
"Ivan Brown·-Turn 4" award, and the "E. H. Cauthen" award.

Be sure to come join us for a great weekend of racing. SEE YA’ll AT THE TRACK!! !!
